Our client is a well known and long established privately owned company that has been providing machining and fabrication services to industry since 1974. The company is based out of Ossett, Wakefield, which provides quick and easy access to all major routes throughout the UK. They work from a large manufacturing unit boasting 80,000 sq ft capacity and offer a range of services including heavy steel fabrication, mechanical pipe fabrication and installation, and thermal store/buffer vessels. Role Profile: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health and Safety Manager to join our team and oversee all health and safety operations within our manufacturing facility in West Yorkshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with legal and company requirements
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement control measures to minimize hazards in the workplace
  • Lead and coordinate health and safety training programs for employees, ensuring awareness andcompliance with safety protocols
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Monitor and inspect the workplace regularly to ensure compliance with health and safety standards and identify areas for improvement
  • Maintain accurate records of health and safety-related incidents, inspections, and training activities
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, health and safety consultants, and other relevant stakeholders to stayinformed about changes in legislation and industry best practices
  • Provide guidance and support to management and employees on health and safety matters, promoting a culture of safety awareness and accountability
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance health and safety performance and minimize risks to personnel and property
  • Participate in management meetings and contribute to decision-making processes regarding health and safety issues
Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Proven experience working as a Health and Safety Manager in a manufacturing environment
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations, codes of practice, and industry standards
  • Certified Health and Safety Practitioner (e.g., NEBOSH General/Construction Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely
  • Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies, incident investigation techniques, and safety management systems
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and health and safety software applications

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving safety issues.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also collaborating effectively as part of a team
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
