The Firm

Cornell Search is working with a growing Venture Capital fund active across various tech sectors, including B2B software and fintech. The fund empowers visionary entrepreneurs at the forefront of successful early to growth-stage companies across Europe and the US.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Venture Associate to join our client's dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the ongoing growth and development of the fund by working closely with the investment team to identify emerging themes, source promising investment opportunities, and provide ongoing support to portfolio companies. Additionally, the research function plays a crucial role in developing insightful content to share the fund’s investment thesis and market perspectives with a wider audience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the investment team to craft compelling investment theses and targeted strategies across various fintech, B2B SaaS and adjacent sectors. Conduct in-depth market research and analysis, leveraging insights from industry experts to assess market potential, identify unmet customer needs, and map the competitive landscape. Your deliverables will include reports, market maps, competitive landscapes and investment-ready materials.
  • Dissect complex information to pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of startups, enabling the team to make informed decisions about both thematic investments and individual opportunities.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in the venture capital and technology industries, effectively communicating key insights to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Optimize existing processes and develop innovative solutions to streamline the investment and due diligence workflows, enhance communication, and foster knowledge sharing.
  • Support the team with keeping the website updated as well as helping with content for our newsletters, aimed at reaching a larger audience in the wider ecosystem.
  • Ad hoc tasks that arise occasionally - every day is different

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of work experience at a top consultancy firm with a track record of producing quality market research, preferably within fintech and/or financial services or technology and software.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of and interest in the venture capital industry and start-up ecosystem
  • Intellectual curiosity, with the ability to identify market trends and market opportunities.
  • A well rounded financial, strategy and analytical toolkit
  • Great communication and people skills so you can articulate and communicate effectively.
  • Perfect command of English. Another language is advantageous too.
  • The ability to work independently and multitask across different projects, assignments and time zones.
  • PowerPoint and Excel (simple modeling)
  • The right to work in the UK.
