Purpose

The Primary Literacy Lead is required to ensure the consistent delivery of highly effective literacy teaching and learning opportunities.The ideal candidate with ensure the implementation of evidence-based strategies and leverage research supported approaches to enhance reading, writing and oracy skills.The Primary Literacy Lead will work across our primary schools (currently covering South Yorkshire) .

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Promote and secure high expectations for primary literacy within our schools

Evaluate the current primary literacy provision and its impact across our schools, identifying areas for improvement

Formulate consistent evidence-based strategies for raising standards of reading, writing and oracy

Identify the strategic direction of Astrea’s primary literacy provision through the efficient monitoring, evaluation and improvement of the quality of teaching and learning

Create a culture of constant, rapid improvement to improve pupil outcomes

Raise achievement and attainment in primary literacy

Work with principals, teachers and subject leads to develop and use appropriate literacy strategies, implementation plans, and assessment tools

Maintain and contribute to the development of strategies in primary literacy

Identify educational research to enhance existing practices

Report progress and achievement regularly to senior colleagues including progress against key milestones

Assist with the effective operation of Primary Literacy Leaders and teachers, individually and with others to:

set the highest expectations and raise standards

deliver highly effective teaching and impactful intervention

developing schemes of work, resources, teaching and learning strategies

contributing to review, monitoring and evaluation and the development of working practices

developing and sharing best practice, whilst empowering others to achieve impact within a range of challenging contexts

participating in working groups and projects

develop positive working relationships with staff

teaching across the Astrea Academy Trust as required

collaborating with the Primary Director and Regional Directors to raise standards of primary literacy to narrow the attainment gap

taking part in other professional development activities
