What You’ll DoStrategy & Leadership

  • Contribute towards the strategic direction for container developer platforms, cloud platform automation and cloud persistence services, guiding their implementation and integration across the department product and project deliveries.

  • Align technical strategies with departmental goals, ensuring that solutions meet both short-term objectives and long-term vision.

  • Help to shape the specification, documentation, and delivery of a common deployment automation framework across the department.

  • Work within the wider site reliability engineering teams to ensure consistent design, implementation, and reliability standards.

Communication & Delivery

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery and ongoing support of all Cloud, Windows, Unix, Storage or Database product or project deliverables. 

  • Communicate work status regularly with a clear articulation of design choices along the way.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, continuously expanding your knowledge and skills to drive innovation and excellence.

Continuous Improvement & Reliability

  • Continuously improve the security, availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of our internal or customer-facing services.

  • Utilise your proficiency across scripting languages to automate tasks and streamline support and delivery operations.

  • Driving technical excellence in everything we do and fostering a culture around data driven reliability, monitoring and automation following SRE principles.

  • Identify opportunities for improving customer self-service capabilities and either delivering these internally or relating them to the platform enablement teams.

Support

  • Engage in troubleshooting, service capacity planning and demand forecasting, software performance analysis and system tuning.

  • Engage with Platform Support teams to assist with 24/7 on-call incident resolution (rota-based) and engage various teams including 3rd parties for support escalation.

  • Be aware of wider issues beyond technology such as financial and organisational; articulating and escalating where necessary.

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • Principal-level knowledge and experience of working in an SRE/DevOps related field.

  • Certification in Kubernetes administration, development, or security. CKA, CKAD or CKS.

  • Demonstrable proficiency in designing and implementing infrastructure and public cloud solutions.

  • Deep knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell.

  • Expertise with container orchestration and container runtime technologies such as Docker and CRI-O.

  • Experience with Linux administration, including command line interface and shell scripting.

  • Proven experience of working within Agile methodologies such as SCRUM and Kanban successfully.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot issues in a complex environment.

  • Experience of implementing monitoring solutions and metric driven alerting using products such as Grafana.

  • Experience of delivering or supporting messaging services such as AmazonMQ, Kafka, RabbitMQ or ActiveMQ.

  • Proven experience of working alongside development teams leveraging GitOps and CI/CD principles, practices, and capabilities.

  • Thorough understanding of networking concepts including switches, routers, firewalls, and load balancers.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Extensive experience with one or more cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and stakeholders.

  • Good understanding of security frameworks such as NIST/SOC 2/ISO/IEC.

  • Proficiency in documentation and presentation to effectively communicate technical solutions.

  • A natural team player, continuously and proactively communicating, engaging with, and leading the teams when required.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. (Not essential if you have related experience or aptitude).

  • Relevant certifications from AWS.

  • Advanced scripting knowledge with proven development experience.
