Oxford Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Oxa Full time
Description

This role is hybrid, with one day per week at our HQ in Oxford. We aren't able to offer visa sponsorship for this role at this time.

Who are we?

Oxa is enabling the transition to self-driving vehicles through an initial focus on the most commercially advanced sector; the autonomous shuttling of goods and people.

We are home to some of the world’s leading experts on autonomous vehicles, creating solutions such as Oxa Driver, equipping vehicles with full self-driving functionality; Oxa MetaDriver, using Generative AI to accelerate and assure the safety of deployments; and Oxa Hub, a set of cloud-based offerings for autonomous fleet management. Our technology is being deployed across the UK and the U.S, and we’re partnering with a fast-growing ecosystem of operators, vehicle OEMs and equipment makers serving autonomous transportation globally as it advances.

Based in Oxford, and with offices in Canada and the U.S, Oxa was founded in 2014 and is growing rapidly (350+ ‘Oxbots’ to date). Our purpose is to change the way the Earth moves, through an uncompromising focus on safety, efficiency and explainability of our AI approaches. The company has attracted $225 million from leading investors so far, with $140 million raised in the last Series C funding round in January 2023.

Your Team

You will join our Oxa Hub team, where we create Oxa's all of the tools and services that organisations need to deploy, manage, operate and analyse their self-driving applications. It acts as mission control for autonomous fleets driven by Oxa.

Your Role

  • Working with a range of other software engineers to spec, design, build, test, deploy, and maintain production-ready web application back-ends, microservices, and associated infrastructure.
  • Producing high-quality, tested, maintainable code.
  • Liaising with other teams within the company to understand their tooling requirements, incorporating these into specifications.
  • Using and extending our existing back-end web application and infrastructure codebases, adhering to their code standards and structure while bearing in mind the advantages, costs, and consequences of refactoring and upgrading.
  • Sharing the responsibility in ensuring our back-end web applications and associated infrastructure are fit for purpose, satisfy user requirements, and are suitable for use in production.
  • Responding to automated alerts to help diagnose problems with live web applications and infrastructure.
  • Collaborating with other team members, discussing problem solving approaches, participating in code reviews and pair programming.
  • Contributing to daily stand ups and other agile ceremonies to ensure visibility of team progress.

Requirements

What you need to succeed:

  • Strong back-end web development skills, particularly with Python (Django, Flask, or gRPC).
  • Demonstrable experience designing and developing REST APIs.
  • Experience with back-end web application testing, debugging, and profiling.
  • Experience with database management systems (SQL/NoSQL).
  • A demonstrable understanding of the importance of documentation, consistent coding styles, modularisation, testing, automation and agile development.
  • A demonstrable understanding of common attack vectors and the ability to follow best practices to ensure security when developing web applications and back-end infrastructure.

Extra Kudos

  • Experience deploying web apps to the cloud such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Front-end web development experience is a huge plus (particularly TypeScript and React).
  • Experience with Node.js and modern JavaScript tools including package management (npm), bundler (webpack), etc.
  • Experience with Docker or infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
