Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM with 30-minute unpaid lunch

About the Position:

The Chief Operating Engineer position comprises three main components: a keen focus on personnel and operations safety, team management, and operational excellence. In this position, you will apply your experience and expertise to supervise production processes and equipment, solve production problems, and provide recommendations for process improvements. Involvement might include sizing equipment, identifying equipment capacity requirements, developing process control systems, and increasing process efficiencies. You will also be involved with the installation of new equipment, modification of existing equipment, and all associated training and start-up tasks, while leading a team to ensure efficient operation of the facility.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Participate in safety activities, drive safety culture, and ensure compliance with safe work practices
  2. Manage a 9 MW CHP (2x natural gas combustion turbines with attached heat recovery steam generators)
  3. Implement strong standard operating procedures for CHP
  4. Manage maintenance staff, contractors, and maintenance activities
  5. Promote high standards for equipment safety and operational efficiency
  6. Continue the integration of a preventative maintenance program
  7. Communicate effectively, enforce policies, maintain an orderly workplace, develop training programs, and implement Management of Change
  8. Manage power engineering staff, including hiring, training, and shift coverage
  9. Ensure compliance with regulations and communicate with regulatory bodies
Required Skills and Qualifications:

Experience: Operating/managing natural gas combustion turbines and heat recovery steam generators
Skills: Mechanical aptitude, strong oral and written communication, computer skills, understanding of food safety
Education/Experience: Must possess an Ontario or Interprovincial 1st Class Power Engineer certificate, minimum 5 years supervisory experience

Additional Information:

Work in accordance with local/provincial legislation. Understand and ensure full compliance with safety and other EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) requirements.
