Salary: Circa £55,000 What You’ll Be Doing: As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-level engineering assurance across cutting-edge BAE Systems Maritime Submarines products. Your expertise will ensure integrity across major Submarine Enterprise programmes. Plan and Prioritize: Use a risk-based approach to optimize assurance activities while adhering to the Submarines Engineering Product Assurance Framework. Lead Assurance Reviews: Bring your SQEP expertise to validate design decisions, technical bids, and engineering evidence. Ensure Compliance: Guarantee that products are safe, compliant, cost-effective, and fully integrated, with hazards demonstrated ALARP. Provide Oversight: Offer independent judgment during design and technical reviews, aligned with mandated engineering frameworks and policies. Collaborate: Work across engineering and business teams to influence outcomes, shape product quality, and enable safe, successful delivery. Act as an Independent Voice: Provide impartial technical support to the broader Submarine Enterprise, challenging designs from a safety-focused perspective. Your Skills and Experience: Degree in Mechanical Engineering: Preferred, but strong experience in design and/or commissioning will also be considered. Hands-On Experience: Familiarity with event reporting systems, confidently identifying issues and driving effective resolutions. Proven Capability: Experience in design proving, taking projects through verification, validation, and successful commissioning. Strong Knowledge: Expertise in design reviews, audits, change management, and resolving complex technical challenges. Solid Mechanical Engineering Background: Practical experience across design, testing, and commissioning activities. You’ll shape key elements of the assurance schedule and gain hands-on insight into audits, inspections, reviews, tests, and trials. Your work will be varied and engaging, producing clear technical briefings, supporting issue investigations, and tracking progress through the Product Assurance team’s Concerns and Best Practice System. You’ll be a trusted source of specialist technical advice, directly contributing to the safety and assurance of world-class Submarine technologies.
