OVERVIEW

The Programme and Project Partners (PPP) model was mobilised in 2019 with the purpose of transforming major project delivery at the Sellafield nuclear site.

The partnership brings together KBR, Jacobs, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, Altrad Babcock and Sellafield Ltd to deliver a 20-year pipeline of major infrastructure projects to support the decommissioning of Sellafield and to create a clean and safe environment for future generations.

In delivering its pipeline of large-scale infrastructure projects, PPP is creating opportunities for its people, supply chain, economy and communities.

LIQUID EFFLUENT COORDINATOR COORDINATOR

Position Summary

• To provide an expert level of professional EHS advice and leadership support to Sellafield Ltd to enable long term delivery of the SL Mission whilst meeting legislative and regulatory requirements, and accepted industry good practice.

• The role will focus on the development, implementation and assurance of appropriate EHS policies, procedures and programmes through proactive management of both internal and external stakeholder communications and engagement.

(Note / Throughout this role profile EHS responsibilities, accountabilities and authorities should be read as EITHER Environmental OR Health & Safety depending on the position / profession of the role holder)

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain an expert knowledge and understanding of applicable EHS legislation, standards and underlying principles within a discipline (e.g. Environmental Protection, Radiological Protection, Conventional Health and Safety) in order to develop appropriate company EHS policies and procedures.

• Act as the company Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a substantial but well-defined EHS topic area and to provide authoritative technical advice to the business on behalf of the Process Owner/Functional Lead.

• Undertake benchmarking activities and maintain links to relevant internal and external groups to ensure that the business has access to the best available EHS knowledge and experience in order to identify, develop and facilitate the implementation of EHS improvements. Role holder will represent Sellafield Ltd at national and international meetings and forums (where required).

• Undertake assurance activities and monitor / review site EHS performance in their area of expertise in order to identify significant issues and advise Process Owners, Heads of EHS&Q and EHS Managers on corrective actions needed in order to improve performance.

• Ensure accurate reporting of EHS issues, trending and analysis of condition reports, and investigation of incidents and events to ensure that appropriate corrective actions are identified and taken, and that learning opportunities identified and shared.

• Authoritative engagement with Government, Regulators and Stakeholders to ensure that these groups have confidence that sufficient and appropriate EHS specialist work is being undertaken, and to influence future strategy and process. Role holder may respond on behalf of Sellafield Ltd to questions and challenges specific to their area of expertise.

• Advise Heads of Profession and Heads of EHS&Q on competency requirements needed by the business to deliver appropriate EHS advice in their area of expertise, and to support the Heads of Profession in the assessment of that competency. To advise on make-buy decisions and act as Intelligent Customer for support to the specialist area.

• Lead/support the investigation of significant EHS incidents and events with a complex technical or site-wide dimension.

• Lead by example, championing best practice by directing, coaching and encouraging others to demonstrate appropriate EHS behaviours and promote a positive EHS culture in line with SL standards and expectations.

• Required to hold formal SQEP roles and to be formally appointed through external qualification and/or the SL Management System process (e.g. Environment QE, RPA, cRWA).

• To work in compliance with the Collaborative Management Plan.

• Dimensions:

  • EHS Specialists (Site) will provide advice to the Corporate Centre and to individual Programmes /Projects/OUs (through Delivery area EHS teams) as required.
  • Will mentor and train others across the business to develop the internal capability for the specialist area.
  •  Will actively demonstrate use of the EHS specialism for the benefit of SL, both internally and externally to the Company.

Qualifications & Experience

• Graduate (2:1 minimum) in a relevant STEM subject or an equivalent level of qualifications and experience.

• Chartered member of the appropriate professional body.

• Up-to-date knowledge of external issues (legislative, regulatory, best practice standards etc.), providing the depth and breadth of knowledge required for the specialist area and to act with credibility at a site level.

• Expert knowledge of site policy and procedures and the ability to maintain strong connection between the area of expertise and the business environment
