In this role, you will provide strategic leadership to the teams who deliver the trusted technology services that underpins the Met Office product and service portfolio, helping us achieve our purpose through greater impact and benefit for the UK. Your world of expertise As our Associate Director, your key duties will be:

  • Being an active member of the Extended Leadership Team supporting the delivery of strategy for the whole Met Office
  • Working with the CTO and wider Technology leadership team to develop and maintain Met Office technology strategy to meet the needs of the organisation
  • Ensuring effective development, operation and lifecycle management of technology services in line with defined service level agreements
  • Working with customers and senior stakeholders across the organisation to ensure the technology services provided are aligned to customer need
  • Maintain awareness of relevant developments in the wider industry and champion their application into the Met Office to help develop innovative solutions

As our Associate Director Products and Services Technology, your total reward package will be up to £103,223 annually, which includes:
  • £72,500 base pay
  • An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27%
  • Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) you will be paid £4,200 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2024 until September 2025 in your monthly pay
  • Relocation Assistance may be available
  • Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave
Essential Criteria, skills and experience:
  1. Professional qualification or chartered accreditation in technology with associated relevant experience (We're experts by nature)
  2. Experience of leading large technology teams (100+) empowering autonomy and fostering active collaboration. (We're better together)
  3. Financial literacy - proven track record of managing a significant budget (£10 million+) within agreed limits and experience of budgeting and forecasting processes
  4. A proven track record of leading critical and complex business and IT change at scale involving multiple vendors
