Job Overview
We are delighted to offer this exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, experienced and compassionate neonatal nurse leader to join our developing neonatal service. Working as a key member of the Neonatal Triumvirate, and working closely with the Divisional Management Team, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of neonatal services in the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Mid-Wales areas.
- Providing senior professional nurse leadership, you will be accountable for the neonates and their families’ experience and the delivery of high-quality services within the neonatal unit, outreach team and ongoing outpatient care within the Women and Children’s Division.
- You will be responsible for ensuring the achievement of operational and strategic objectives, which will include particular emphasis on the quality of care, the neonatal and family experience, infection control, the care environment, neonatal nutrition, parent/carer and public involvement, clinical service improvement and health education promotion.
- Working closely with the other matrons, centre managers, divisional and other key partners, you will deliver the Divisional and Trust’s overall strategic objectives, always ensuring that the patient and family experience is a key priority.
- Providing visible leadership and demonstrating clinical credibility and direction is key to this role, and will largely be achieved by working with and supervising staff in the clinical areas.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Through demonstration of personal behaviours and the core values of the Trust, the Matron will:-
Provide professional nurse leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, high quality, effective and compassionate neonatal services, demonstrating good governance and exemplary standards.
As a key member of the Neonatal triumvirate, the Matron will hold joint accountability for the delivery of efficient and effective delivery of high quality, safe neonatal care which is evidence based and within available resources.
Assume responsibility and accountability for the management and standards of nursing staff, ensuring effective systems are in place to ensure the delivery of high quality care.
Ensure a high level of visibility and accessibility to staff, families and internal and external partners to demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills at all levels, fostering a culture of openness and transparency.
Working for our organisation
As an organisation we strive to provide high quality, safe care for our patients in an environment which our staff are proud to work in. We believe that by adhering to our Vision (“To provide excellent care for the communities we serve”) and working with our Trust Values in mind (Partnering, Ambitious, Caring, Trusted) we can achieve the right results for the people that matter most – our patients and their families.
The role will provide a fabulous opportunity to join a highly enthusiastic team who are passionate about delivering and developing excellent standards of care to our neonates and families.
The Level 2 Local Neonatal Unit (LNU), is currently commissioned to deliver care to 3 short-term intensive care, 3 high dependency and 16 special care babies, together with care for babies requiring transitional and ongoing outreach care in the area.
The Matron will be instrumental in developing the neonatal outreach service and will be a key member of the operational team involved in the planning of future neonatal services in the Hospitals Transformation Programme.
Additionally, the Matron's role with the West Midlands Neonatal ODN is fundamental in supporting the overarching aim of ensuring that babies are being cared for in the right hospital and at the right time for each babies care needs.
