Principal Technical Publications Engineer Location: Bristol (Hybrid) Salary: £55,000 – £61,500 (depending on experience) A leading global defence and engineering organisation is seeking a Principal Engineer – Technical Publications to lead the delivery of critical documentation and support materials for the UK's most advanced submarine platforms. This role sits within the Support Engineering function, focusing on the Astute-class submarine programme, with close collaboration across other key platforms such as Vanguard, Dreadnought, and SSNA. As Principal Engineer, you will manage the production of Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs) for the Astute programme, ensuring all outputs meet contractual and quality standards. You'll play a pivotal role in coordinating with the Ministry of Defence and internal engineering teams, driving continuous improvement in processes, quality, and efficiency. What you'll be doing: • Leading the Astute IETP Production Team and overseeing planning, quality assurance, and delivery. • Acting as the primary liaison for the MoD Astute IETP Manager and user community. • Managing all aspects of IETP production, including reporting and process improvement. • Supporting wider submarine programmes by collaborating with Technical Publications teams across multiple platforms. What we're looking for: • Degree-qualified engineer or equivalent experience (including HM Forces background). • Strong background in Technical Publications or Support Engineering within defence or complex engineering programmes. • Working knowledge of IETP/IETM systems and ASD S1000D standards. • Familiarity with MoD Support Defence Standards (Def Stan 00-60 / 00-600). • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management experience, particularly with MoD customers. Desirable: • Experience with the Trilogi software suite (TrilogiBuild, TrilogiView, TrilogiReview). • Knowledge of submarine or surface ship platforms.
