Astell Associates is a well-established ecological and arboricultural consultancy. We undertake all types of ecological surveys and tree surveys, and advise on protected species, all over Scotland. Our clients include local authorities, developers, golf course designers and private homeowners.
Much of our consultancy work requires a pragmatic, problem-solving approach to achieve the best solutions possible for all the parties involved, and it can be very satisfying when we get the right balance of ecological conservation alongside sympathetic development.
We are looking for a Project Ecologist with a minimum of a bachelor's degree in ecology or a closely related subject.
Our ideal candidate will have experience in undertaking a range of ecological surveys, including extended Phase 1 habitat surveys and Phase 2 protected species surveys, following best practice guidelines, with some knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain and being able to carry out calculations and assessments. Experience in tree surveying is also advantageous.
You should have good knowledge of European and National nature conservation legislation and UK planning policy. Appropriate training will be given, but you should be able to undertake project and survey work without direct supervision. Ideally, you will hold survey licences for at least one protected species, or be willing to work towards gaining these licences.
Fluent English
Experience in report writing
Mapping skills (QGIS, ArcGIS and AutoCAD)
A full UK driving licence

You must be willing to work flexible hours, including unsociable hours, particularly during the busy summer bat survey season.
