Band 5/6 HIV Dietitian

Birmingham, United Kingdom University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Are you interested in developing your dietetic career and exploring the area of HIV dietetics? Whether you are newly qualified or already have experience this post is open to anyone looking for a new challenge - we can offer as a band 5-6 development post or as band 6 depending on experience. If you want to make a real difference to the quality of life of those living with HIV this could be the post for you. You will be a valued member of our dynamic multidisciplinary team where your opinion will matter and you will have opportunity to use your own initiative to meet the dietetic needs of people living with HIV.

People living with HIV now have a normal life expectancy with the help of ART treatment, lifestyle and dietary modifications. This creates an immense opportunity for the dietitians to deliver a wide range of dietary interventions using their knowledge and skills in therapeutic diets to support service users alongside monitoring their cardiovascular and bone health on regular basis.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Dietitian to join our small HIV therapy team. The post holder will work alongside another dietitian and therapy support workers as well as occupational therapists, pharmacists, clinical nurse specialists and the medical team. Clinical work is predominantly in the out-patient setting with some specialist inpatient work. It involves working with individuals and groups and will focus on dietary and specialist drug adherence advice.

Main duties of the job

Teaching skills, a MDT approach, enthusiasm for audit, research and developing the service is essential as there are plenty of opportunities to be involved in national initiatives. There is also scope for quality improvement projects in the field of HIV nutrition. The population is ageing and a holistic approach to this cohort is required to improve their overall quality of life. You will have excellent communication skills with an interest in HIV. Previous experience working within HIV will be beneficial, but is not essential.

You will be supported by a large progressive Dietetic department, which offers excellent training and development opportunities, as well as a large Therapy Directorate with close MDT links. The department gives CPD a high priority and actively supports dietetic students on a range of placements.

Therapies at Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals as part of UHB is committed to providing a 7-day therapy service with participation in bank holiday cover for dietetics.

The Trust is a multi-site organisation, therefore you may be required to work at any Trust site and you may need to change your normal place of work either temporarily or on a permanent basis as a result of development or re-organisation of Trust services.

Applicants must be flexible and be prepared to work cross-site, with participation in evening clinics where required. We are committed to offering flexible working where appropriate and supporting your work life balance.
