Our Client has a number of exciting opportunities for Calibration/System Performance Engineers to work in the NRMM and related industries. Our Client is a World Class engineering powertrain consultancy, delivering robust projects and technical services for major clients across multiple sectors. They are looking for passionate & pro-active engineers at the top of their game and with all levels of relevant experience, from recent graduates to time-served Chartered Engineers. These roles will see the successful candidates embedded in client teams, delivering projects and providing expert technical support. As a member of the Client, you will have full access to a network of the Clients' engineers & experience to grow professionally and provide focused & relevant solutions that add value to our clients & customers. The roles will typically cover a variety of functions and disciplines, including ICE calibration, powertrain system performance development, data analysis, issue investigation & resolution, system modeling, and simulation. Work in new powertrain sectors (battery, fuel cell, etc) is also a possibility. Some industry or academic experience is preferred, but training will be offered & given to candidates as required.

Your Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and manage powertrain calibrations using client &/or Client toolsets & processes
  2. Define, generate & manage engine test plans
  3. Planning, execution and analysis of engine & system simulation activities
  4. System performance assessment, including trade-offs and data analysis
  5. Data review and root cause analysis (RCA) to identify powertrain system issues & develop solutions for resolution
  6. System modeling, calibration simulation, using toolsets such a MatLab SIMULINK
  7. Functioning within a professional team, generate & present reports (verbal & written) including recommendations and proposals
  8. Work with other company's & Client teams to deliver project objectives
  9. Promote best practice and robust technical solutions using Client toolsets as appropriate
Your Profile:

Essential:

  • 2:1 or above Bachelors or Master's degree in a relevant topic
  • Excellent understanding of diesel internal combustion engine operation and performance
  • Knowledge of ancillary systems (air path, exhaust after treatment technologies, control, etc)
  • Understanding of vehicle architecture & control systems
  • Experience or knowledge of vehicle emissions requirements
  • Good knowledge of simulation systems, particularly MatLab SIMULINK
  • Working knowledge of calibration toolsets & engine calibration, including trade-offs for emissions and performance
  • Excellent analytical skills, able to interpret data and results and present results in a clear & understandable format
  • Strong team player, with good communication & English language skills
  • A self-starter, 'can-do' approach, able to work with other team members at all levels to reach 'win-win' agreements
  • A strong willingness to learn and develop

Preferable:

  • PhD in a relevant subject
  • Knowledge of the off-highway (NRMM) or heavy-duty on-road sector, including emissions legislation (Stage V, Tier 4 final, etc)
  • Experience of using calibration and data analysis tools (e.g.: CONCERTO, Vector CANape, CAMEO, DIAdem, etc)
  • An understanding in the techniques, process, toolsets & methodology for Virtual Calibration
  • Expert NRMM ICE experience (calibration, analysis & simulation)
  • Good knowledge of NRMM machines and associated systems
  • An interest in non-ICE based power technologies (Fuel Cells, battery systems, etc)
  • Controls & calibration development using SiL & MiL techniques
  • Familiarization with 1-D simulation tools (e.g. GT-Power)
