Job Description

The Access, Advocacy and Engagement Worker will be managed by the Clubs Programme Leader and Artistic Director, and will be responsible for the following:

Organising support as necessary for individuals to participate in the Clubs and events programmes, via volunteers, Adult Services and/or Access to Work, or by providing occasional support directly as needed.
Organising access equipment, or liaising with Adult Services and/or Access to Work to supply this, as necessary for individuals including volunteers and Team members to participate in the Clubs and events programmes.
Overseeing access provision for the events programme, including booking BSL interpreters, Palayntypists and other support workers, in liaison with the Artistic Director.

Advocacy

Liaising with the DWP, local authorities, Access to Work and other organisations as necessary on behalf of artists and participants, including volunteers and Team members, when housing, benefit or support issues are threatening their participation in the Clubs and events programmes. NB: There are no locally based organisations that can provide this service, so simply ‘sign-posting’ is not possible.

Engagement

Sending out reminders by text and email about the Clubs and events programme to regular participants, and making follow-up calls as necessary.
Promoting Together 2012 CIC’s participatory activities through local authority and community networks.
Contacting regular participants to check that their needs are being met.
Assisting with evaluations, including helping to distribute and process feedback forms at events.

Other

Recruiting and managing Together 2012 CIC volunteers for the Clubs and artistic programmes, including liaising with other Team members as necessary.
Recording and collating facts and figures relating to the work for funders and Board members and external evaluators.
Reporting to the Board and Community Advisory Board in relation to access support and volunteer issues, including recommendations about relevant policies, practices and fundraising.
Attending relevant external meetings, alone or with colleagues.
Liaising and maintaining contact with relevant locally based and national advice, advocacy and support services.
Assisting colleagues to cover for Team members’ illness or leave.
Attending training courses as required, including ‘core skills’ courses in safeguarding etc.

The Access, Advocacy and Engagement Worker will be provided with a smartphone and tablet or laptop and other necessary items. Together 2012 CIC will fund either a data package via the smartphone or make a contribution to broadband costs.

The post combines fixed and flexible working from home within our operating hours. This will usually mean working weekday mornings with flexibility in the afternoons. All work must be carried out between 10am and 6pm Monday-Friday apart from when an evening or weekend event is taking place.

The Access, Advocacy and Engagement Worker is required to be present when the Clubs programme is open, where they will have lead responsibility for meeting support needs. Details of the 2024 Clubs programme can be found here.

The Access, Advocacy and Engagement Worker is also be required to attend Team meetings on Mondays. These normally take place from 12noon (or 12.15pm if a Club is taking place beforehand), with a longer meeting on the third Monday of each month. There is also the opportunity to attend training sessions on the first and any fifth Monday of the month – Together 2012 CIC employs an apprentice and an Assistant Artistic Director in training, so sessions are targeted at meeting their needs but are open to the whole Team.

The Access, Advocacy and Engagement Worker is also required to attend meetings of the Community Advisory Board. These usually take place quarterly.

The Access, Advocacy and Engagement Worker is also required to attend the events programme activities, where they will be responsible for liaising with and managing volunteers and support workers. Some weekend and evening working will be required within the events programme – time off in lieu is given at time and a half (so 90 minutes off for each 60 worked out of normal hours) to be taken as soon as possible afterwards.
