United Kingdom Marie Curie Full time

Band 5 Registered Nurse **Expression of Interest** – Marie Curie Cardiff and the Vale Hospice

Who are we?

Marie Curie is one of the UK’s most loved charities and the leader in end-of-life care and support. We’re fighting for a better end of life for all because we believe that every day of your life matters – from the first to the last.

We provide expert community nursing and hospice care and a wealth of information and support on all aspects of dying, death and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end of life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best experience possible at the end of their lives.

We believe that we can make a real difference to the lives of patients (and their families/most important people) through our values, purpose and the way that we deliver personalised care.

Penarth is a Victorian sea-side town 4 miles (7 km) southwest of Cardiff in Wales. It has impressive Victorian architecture and known for its pier and extensive parks. With long views out over the Severn estuary and across to England, Penarth is a seaside town full of charm and character.

The opportunity

Due to increased demand for our services, the Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth is opening a second ward. To meet capacity, we will be looking for a number of Registered Nurses to make a difference within our Inpatient Unit based at our fantastic facility, overlooking the sea. This is an exciting time for the hospice as we look to further develop our services and support our patients and their loved ones when they need us most.

Being a Nurse at Marie Curie is incredibly rewarding on so many levels. For starters, we offer you high staffing ratios, which means less time on paperwork and more time with patients. As a Marie Curie Nurse, you will provide high quality nursing care and participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care needs for the patient group in a palliative care setting, helping people to live their final days with dignity.

You’ll be part of a supportive team that truly cares about you and your development. Using a patient-centred approach and evidenced based practice, assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care and co-ordinate care from admission to discharge. You will be expected to administer medication and treatment as prescribed in accordance with the NMC’s and the Charity’s policies and guidelines. You will also provide emotional, psychological and spiritual support for patients and carers.

As this is an expression of interest, we may not have any suitable vacancies at this time, however, we will keep in touch with any exciting updates and new opportunities as they become available.

How will I make a difference?

You know how important it is to be passionate about caring for patients at their end of life. It’s what drives you. As a Registered Nurse, with a valid NMC pin, you’ll be responsible for using evidence-based practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, working alongside a team of healthcare assistants to ensure appropriate clinical care is delivered. You’ll have the autonomy to drive quality care and innovate our approach and services where the opportunity arises.

We are passionate about continuous improvement and are looking for nurses who share this passion to work with us to ensure the people we serve, and our staff, are treated with respect and as individuals.

Highly trusted, you’ll have the time to form real connections with our patients, giving them the kindness, support, compassion and care they deserve.

The ability to communicate compassionately and effectively is essential as is a clearly demonstrable person-centred approach.

Benefits you’ll LOVE

  • A meaningful career that enables you to make a difference in people’s lives when they need and appreciate it the most.
  • Time to provide dedicated care to patients and their families/most important people in their preferred setting.

We champion diversity and we understand the importance of our people representing the communities and patients we serve. You’ll find an inclusive environment where you can be yourself and where everyone is driven by the same purpose – providing better end of life care for all.

What do I need?

  • A Registered Nurse with a valid NMC pin and a genuine commitment to adhering to the NMC Codes of Conduct and expanding your professional development.
