Deputy Data Protection

The Data Protection & Security function is responsible for providing support to the Data Protection Officer (DPO), internal data protection (Information Governance) arrangements and records management derived from legislation for compliance purposes. These include the processing, development and maintenance of relevant policies and procedures, information sharing arrangements, the management of security incidents, processing data requests, data protection training, NHS Data Security & Protection Toolkit (DS&PT) compliance, information security, data protection / privacy impact assessments and support the Caldecott Guardian (CG) and Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO).
The postholder will lead on the management and co-ordination of the data protection and security service operationally and hold line management and managerial responsibility of employees within the service.
The postholder will ensure demand management and prioritisation is undertaken alongside maintaining relevant policies and service procedures.
The postholder will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of an effective data protection and security support service and be part of a Duty In function on a rota basis.
The role is agile, and you would be expected to work in such a way with your agile kit (mobile and laptop equipment) to work onsite and from home to suit the service needs or when required by leadership.
Training & Qualifications
Management / Line Management / Supervisory Qualification
Experience of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
An understanding of the Data Protection Act / UK GDPR, Freedom of Information and Access to Health Records Legislation
Must be willing to participate in any relevant training to develop skills required to carry out duties
Evidence of continuing professional development in relevant area (s) - Records Management, Data Retention, Data Protection, Handling Information
Experience of working with the Data Security & Protection Toolkit
Knowledge of project methodology Data Protection Act Qualification
Experience of managing and leading a team / supervisee's / inductions / apprenticeships
Working in a busy office environment and agile
Experience and / or understanding of Data Protection challenges in a healthcare setting
Producing agendas, formatting reports and letter writing
Knowledge of current Information Governance / Data Protection legislation
Knowledge or experience of the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit
Good presentation / training skills
Experience of delivering training relevant to role
Line Management qualification / certificate Experience of working in a support role
Experience of working in the National Health Service (NHS)
Experience of working in a Data Protection / Information Governance department
Knowledge and understanding of the importance of confidentiality, Data Protection / Information Governance and security policies
Specialist knowledge of NHS and statutory polices and regulations including UK GDPR, Data Protection Act, Caldicott Principles
Ability to analyse complex information requiring interpretation in order to meet the service requirement e.g., Staff data on training, skills and competencies
Self- motivated and able to encourage others at all levels including senior management
Competent IT skills in order to collect and interpret data, present reports and compile simple presentations
Flexible approach to meet the conflicting demands of the job
Effective time management skills in order to meet deadlines
