Electromechanical Engineer - Submarines

Full Time
Glasgow / Derby

Why Rolls-Royce?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Electromechanical Engineer to join our future programmes EC&I Department at Rolls-Royce Submarines in Derby supporting the Dreadnought and SSNA programmes.

We’re a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority.

Join us and we’ll provide an environment where you can be yourself. An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career.

The future programmes EC&I department designs the Reactor Control and Instrumentation, Power Systems and Plant Sensors equipment across the UK. You will be involved in delivering sensor design, modifications and providing V&V and build and commissioning support. You will be working closely with the supply chain, the shipbuilder, internal design teams and the internal customer. Electro-Mechanical design engineers from a broad range of equipment design, commissioning and support backgrounds would be considered and specific product-based training will be provided.

We offer excellent development, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing:

You will be involved in delivering the full product design lifecycle of sensor products for the Dreadnought programme and the SSNA programme.

  • Delivery of work packages across two programmes to agreed time and costs
  • Design/prototype development of several new sensor products to support the SSNA programme
  • Response to rectifying build and commissioning sensors equipment defects/requests for technical information involving some occasional on-site work
  • Production of build and commissioning documentation
  • Evaluation of the safety and integrity of the sensor’s products
  • Production of safety case design documentation to support the safe operation of the plant.

Who we’re looking for:

At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

  • Electro-Mechanical Design experience across either design, build and commissioning or in service products or assets
  • Experience of design development engineering
  • Experience of Lifecycle Engineering across the full V curve
  • Electrical, mechanical or other relevant engineering qualification
  • Knowledge of Sensor Systems/high integrity controls systems

Please be aware that the priority will be given to employees identified as being at high risk. The professional level and the salary of the position will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful candidate. It is advised that you inform your current manager of your application for this role.

We are an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives. And the more perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be.

By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.

You can learn more about our global Inclusion strategy here .

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
