Senior Planning Lawyer Your new role
There has never been a more exciting time to work for National Highways. We manage and maintain over 4,300 miles of motorways and major A-roads connecting people, building communities, creating opportunities and enabling growth across the country.
As a Senior Lawyer within our Planning Legal Team you will have experience in at least two of (i) town and country planning law, (ii) infrastructure planning law, (iii) highways law, (iv) environmental law and (v) public law. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of our Road Investment Strategy, encountering diverse and exciting legal challenges along the way. You will be working in the team that advises the business on planning, environmental and highways law and you may also be involved across a full range of areas of the business, meaning no two days are the same.
As a Senior Lawyer you will be advising on both traditional planning, environmental and highways matters as well as infrastructure planning as part of a friendly and supportive legal team supporting the delivery of some of the country's largest infrastructure projects. Giving strategic advice on planning and highways applications and considering the implications of planning applications for the Strategic Road Network as a statutory consultee under the Town & Country Planning Act 1990;
Advising the business on its role as an interested party and statutory consultee in respect of third-party development proceeding under the Planning Act 2008 regime;
Helping delivery of the Road Investment Strategy including advising on Development Consent Orders;
Advising on the delivery of highway schemes under the Highways Act 1980;
Providing advice to the business on compulsory purchase, highways and environmental law, permitted development, planning conditions, consultation, judicial review, and High Court challenges;
In-depth understanding of those areas of law practiced by the team
Understanding of the aims of National Highways, and the implications of actions
Understanding the role of Legal Services within National Highways
Ability to manage your caseload and work with autonomy on complex legal matters
An informal blended working approach has been adopted for many of our roles across National Highways. We offer many different ways to work flexibly and we're open to discuss part-time working, job shares, and flexible start and finish times.
And finally we reserve the right to close before the advertised closing date, so we recommend completing your application as soon as possible.
