Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract, additional and enhanced services where appropriate.
  2. Provide other general medical services to meet identified patient needs.
  3. Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation.
  4. Assess the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  5. Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  6. Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice; disease management protocols, provide counselling and health education.
  7. Work within current ICB policy for prescribing.
  8. Be available and accessible to patients at all times as agreed.
  9. Maximise the effective use of current clinical computer systems.
  10. Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to an agreed standard.
  11. Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  12. Undertake all duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  13. Participate in clinical auditing and data collection.
  14. Support undergraduate student training in the surgery.
  15. Support GP registrar training in practice.
  16. Attend team meetings and other clinical meetings as necessary.
  17. Provide short-term emergency cover for unplanned absence of colleagues.
  18. Provide emergency on-call cover for the practice.
  19. Provide extended hours cover as per rota.
