The Misbourne is an 11-18 Academy in the picturesque village of Great Missenden in the heart of the Chilterns. a team who are striving to help each student flourish both academically and personally.

We are an Academy that:
Takes an evidence-informed approach to school improvement, only implementing what we feel will make the biggest difference to the lives and outcomes of our young people, being mindful of staff workload and well-being. At The Misbourne we acknowledge that teaching is a demanding profession and therefore looking after our staff is of highest priority. We actively look at ways to give staff time back, whether this be with our two week October half term, a flexible PPA which you can take at home every fortnight, or flexible use of gained time in the summer term.
We have development time across the year so that curriculum teams can collaboratively plan and talk about teaching; We use the summer term to gain time to plan ahead, once again meaning that the summer holiday can indeed be a proper break from teaching. It is an exciting time to work with the Science team - we have many new curriculum developments, combined with a range of co-curricular opportunities and trips. This is resulting in large numbers of students choosing to study the triple sciences at GCSE, along with ever increasing numbers of students studying the 3 sciences at A level.
The Science department consists of 8 dedicated Science labs each of which is well equipped to deliver specialist teaching through to A Level. The Science team consists of 10 members of teaching staff covering biology, chemistry and physics specialisms. Three experienced Science Technicians work with the teaching staff to provide our students with as many practical opportunities as possible.
At KS3 a broad range of science topics are taught to provide the foundation knowledge required for success in the sciences. At GCSE we follow the AQA Triple Science and Trilogy Science courses. At A Level, Biology and Chemistry follow the OCR A specifications, Physics follows the AQA specification.
The Science department works with our excellent careers team to take the lead in a wide range of STEM opportunities for students. A level trip to Reading University
