PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT TECHNOLOGIST A leading Scottish food manufacturer with a proud heritage is seeking a Product Development Technologist to join its Development Team. With over 50 years of experience producing high-quality frozen desserts for the foodservice industry, this well-established company is known for its innovation and commitment to excellence. Reporting to the Senior Development Manager, this role offers a unique opportunity for a creative and skilled individual to contribute to the continued success of a company with a reputation for delivering award-winning products. The Role: The Product Development Technologist will be responsible for creating and developing new products, working closely with both customers and internal teams. From concept to launch, this varied role requires managing the entire product development process, ensuring that manufacturing processes, costs, and food safety standards are maintained throughout. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing products in response to customer briefs as well as leading innovative "blue sky" projects.
  • Ensuring all aspects of HACCP, manufacturing processes, and cost considerations are factored into development.
  • Liaising with customers to understand their needs and develop tailored solutions.
  • Maintaining detailed documentation of the development process, from concept through to product launch.
  • Collaborating with production teams to manage and supervise factory trials and new product launches.
  • Completing technical information for Sample Submission Forms.
  • Identifying and staying ahead of current and future market trends.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Contributing to the overall success of the department by collaborating with colleagues on various projects.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • A degree in food science or a related qualification.
  • Previous experience in a Product Development Technologist role or a similar position.
  • Experience working in the FMCG or food manufacturing environment.
  • A background in developing bakery-style products, including gluten-free and vegan.
  • Creativity, innovation, and the ability to think beyond everyday challenges.
  • Competency in using spreadsheets and similar systems.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
