We have a customer base that includes major utilities including UK Power Networks, Western Power Distribution, Consolidated Edison, Hydro One and Southern California Edison and controls over 500 MW of renewable generation, from wind turbines to electric vehicles, across its customer territories.

Smarter Grid Solutions are seeking a DevOps engineer to join our experienced team in Glasgow to support the continued growth of our DevOps team. Reporting to our Principal DevOps Engineer and working alongside our technology teams you will provide a key role in supporting SGS’s product & DevOps strategy.

Your focus will be on supporting the DevOps and wider Technology team with day to day BAU DevOps support and working on Projects that help us deliver our world-class technology to our customers.

As a DevOps engineer, you will be a keen learner with an aptitude for new technologies and helping others adopt it.

Support, design & maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting both development and production workloads in AWS, Azure and VMware platforms.
Support existing AWS environments and provide training and knowledge transfer to both software development and support teams.
Setup new AWS environments
Working with Architects, Principal DevOps Engineer and Product Owners to refine and manage the DevOps backlog of work.
Recommend best practices and evangelise a DevOps culture within the SGS Software Development team.
Manage the DevOps tooling suite, ensuring each is running efficiently, and recommending improvements and migration strategies.
Identify and act on opportunities to increase automation and efficiency throughout our software development pipeline
Writing Infrastructure code to implement and support the Development environment infrastructure.
Working with the Security Team to integrate security into the application development environment
Assist with the feasibility and scoping of technology projects
A deep understanding of AWS Knowledge, with a focus on: MSK, S3, IoT, IAM, SNS, Containers, SES, Timestream
IAC deployments with Terraform & CloudFormation
Coding experience in Bash, PowerShell or Python
Building and testing containers (docker)
from a Software Engineering background
~ Linux Administration
~ or Configuration management experience
~ hands-on experience with AWS or Azure
~ administration experience, SQL Server or PostgreSQL
~ understanding of networking topologies
~ in IT automation
