There are two teams based in both Barrow-in-Furness and South Cumbria which already work closely together and this role will help further consolidate those strong relationships. The Home Based Treatment Teams provides care for people experiencing acute episodes of mental illness or emotional distress. The service offers intensive support to service users and their families in the community. The service works closely with other agencies and mental health services, including inpatient wards. With time dedicated to providing individual assessment, formulation and short term intervention to service users. There is also an expectation that the role will also encompass service development, training and consultation work with other professionals.
The post will sit as part of a team of psychologists working within The Bay Network, and the successful applicant will be welcomed as part of a service which encourages the development of specific interests. It is hoped that the applicant would be keen to undergo further clinical training to develop the therapeutic portfolio of the wider service, in line with their own preferred models.


Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.


The Trust also provides a range of physical health and well-being services in the community alongside a range of partners in the Lancashire, Cumbria and Sefton area.

Doctoral level or equivalent training in clinical/counselling psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS.

Knowledge of legislation in relation to the service user group and mental health knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
Skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to service users, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within the outside the NHS.
