About the Team

This role sits within the Controllership team of the GroupM UK Finance team. The Controllership team are responsible for all Controllership activities across the GroupM UK market. It headed up by the Group Financial Controller and contains c70 staff .

About the Role

The role is a newly created and Senior role within the GroupM UK Finance team. The Head of Financial Reporting & Control will lead a team of 4 across all Financial Reporting, compliance and central accounting activities.

The Head of Financial Reporting & Control will lead on all audits across the Group including group audit, stats audits, WPP internal audits and SOX ensuring audits run in line with agreed timetables and supporting the team in resolving auditor queries and agreeing audit deliverables . There is a challenging audit schedule in FY24 and t he role will also lead on the new auditor transition from FY24.

There will be a strong emphasis on providing first-class support across the wider controllership and Finance teams, providing the team with the resources and information required for their roles

The role will be responsible for implementing a robust Transfer Pricing process in FY24 and driving even greater focus on the balance sheet.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all audits across the GroupM UK market including Group audit, stats audit and SOX, supporting the team in resolving auditor queries quickly , coordinating audit deliverables and timetabling
  • A ccountability for audit and compliance deadlines and financial statements (content and filings)
  • Tracking key compliance and reporting deadlines, and ensuring these are communicated to the team, helping the team manage multiple priorities and managing wider Group expectations
  • Leading a team of 4, delegating tasks and managing priorities as appropriate
  • Creating fir s t-class Financial Reporting support for the wider Controllership team and identifying opportunities to reduce workload across the Controllership team and creat ing efficiencies
  • Ensuring WPP and GroupM policies are communicated, understood by the team and adhered to ensuring the team have the resources they require to do this
  • Manage relationships with various stakeholders including auditors, Risk & Compliance teams, the wider finance team and WPP teams
  • Implement regular balance sheet reviews with the Controllership team with the aim of understanding the balance s heet in detail, identifying opportunities to standardise processes , maintaining a log of balance sheet risks & Opportunities and driving the timely resolution of balance sheet issues
  • Helping to drive forward reductions in intercompany balances supporting the Intercompany Senior FC as appropriate
  • Support on SOX on an ad hoc basis as required due to team absences identifying opportunities to centralise controls where possible
  • Leading on embedding robust Transfer Pricing procedures across the UK market to meet WPP requirements and overseeing tax compliance ensuring all VAT and tax returns are completed on time
  • Providing technical accounting guidance to the wider finance team
  • Identifying opportunities to standardise processes and approaches across statutory accounts , accounting policies and financial reporting processes working with the T&I team to initiate projects

Other a ttributes & skills required in the role

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) with at least 5 years PQE
  • Significant and recent experience required from audit practice to be able to understand audit approaches and challenge as appropriate
  • IFRS accounting
  • Ability to influence key senior stakeholders across finance
  • S trong communicator and interpersonal skills required
  • T eam management experience.
  • Excellent oral and written skills.
  • Strong analytical skills , proactive and investigative mind-set
  • Desire for continuous improvement
  • Experience of Auditor transition desirable
