One of my key clients working in the EV & Motorsport industry are looking for a Power Electronics Engineer to join them. Roles: Power Electronics Engineer Salary: £40k to £80k Location - Northamptonshire Hybrid As a Power Electronics Engineer you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and optimizing power electronics systems that are at the core of our innovative products. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of power electronics projects, from initial concept and design through to testing and final production. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, advanced simulation and testing capabilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development: Design and develop power electronics circuits and systems, including inverters, converters, and power supplies. Create detailed schematics, PCB layouts, and oversee the fabrication and assembly of prototypes.
  • Simulation and Testing: Perform comprehensive simulations using tools like SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar to model and predict system performance. Conduct bench testing, validation, and verification of power electronic circuits to ensure they meet design specifications and industry standards.
  • System Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including firmware, software, mechanical, and systems engineers to integrate power electronics solutions into larger systems, ensuring seamless operation and functionality.
  • Failure Analysis and Troubleshooting: Conduct detailed failure analysis on non-performing circuits and systems, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. Provide technical support during product testing and field trials to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Thermal Management: Design and implement effective thermal management solutions to ensure the reliability and longevity of power electronics components and systems.
  • Component Selection and Sourcing: Select and qualify components such as capacitors, inductors, and semiconductors. Work with suppliers to ensure components meet the required specifications and quality standards.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation including design specifications, test plans, test reports, and user manuals. Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as IEC, IEEE, and UL. Participate in compliance testing and certification processes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in power electronics. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product performance and reliability.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. Coordinate with project managers and other team members to track progress and meet project milestones.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in Powertrain development.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and other relevant simulation tools.
  • Experience with real-time embedded systems and software development.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
