Clinical Research Midwife

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and organised Research Midwife to join the INSIGHT2 team.
Building on our previous pregnancy cohort study (INSIGHT, which focussed on biomarkers for risk prediction of PTB recruited > 2000 women), the goal of this INSIGHT-2 study is to recruit a larger, more comprehensive longitudinal pregnancy and birth cohort. This will allow us to study the emergence of a number of several related pregnancy complications and determine the impact on the fetus, neonate and child. We also plan to follow up the mother's health after pregnancy. This will be offered on an internal secondment basis for an initial period of 12 months. There may be potential to extend beyond this. Main duties of the job The post will be based in London and will involve the initial start-up, as well as ongoing multi-centre coordination and delivery of the study on time and within target. The post holder will work with a high level of autonomy, taking delegated responsibility from the Chief Investigator. The position will be located within the Department of Women's and Children's Health on the 10th floor, North Wing, St Thomas' Hospital. Responsibilities will include ongoing management and organization of research duties, ensuring a high standard of study administration and record keeping with corresponding responsibilities for the coordination of the study. The post holder will be required to travel as necessary and liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary research team and key personnel at all sites. Relationships with antenatal senior midwifery staff and Principal Investigators will be crucial to success. The team at STH is experienced and active and will assist in troubleshooting at this site, and the post holder will be encouraged to be part of this team and involved with local activities and other clinical research studies when complementary to their role or appropriate. The post holder will ensure that the research undertaken safeguards the wellbeing of the patients and ensures the robustness of the scientific data and is conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP). About us Our team comprises research nurses, midwives, and clinical research practitioners, all working on a broad range of clinical research studies and trials within the Reproductive Health & Childbirth portfolio. We are very fortunate to also have close ties with the King's College London Department of Women and Children's Health and to be a member of King's Health Partners. The NIHR Comprehensive Clinical Research Network (CCRN) was established by the Department of Health to enhance the speed, quality, and integration of clinical research, leading to improved patient care. It is managed by the NIHR Clinical Research Network Coordinating Centre. The NIHR CCRN consists of 25 local research networks (CLRNs) in England, each encompassing primary care, secondary care, tertiary care, and mental health NHS service providers. The role of the CLRNs is to establish and maintain an exemplary NHS infrastructure for clinical research and research management. This infrastructure includes clinical research support staff and sessional support for clinical investigators of all professions, funding for other NHS Support Costs such as additional clinical services and diagnostic tests, and research management and governance systems and staff. Being embedded within the LCRN and having a close working partnership with King's College London, along with academic links, enables us to be at the forefront of clinical research within the field of Reproductive Health and Childbirth. Person Specification Education/ Qualifications Essential- Registered Midwife with NMC registration
- Educated to degree level or above
- Evidence of continuous personal, professional or academic development
- Relevant post registration qualification
- ICH GCP & EU Clinical Trial Directive certificated
- Extensive knowledge of research area relevant to the Department
- Previous post registration experience within midwifery
- Experienced and competent in the management of patients within the speciality
- Experience with clinical databases
- Experience with Excel spreadsheets
- Experience of effective multidisciplinary team working
- Extensive experience of working in an acute NHS setting.
- Knowledge of quality, standard setting, benchmarking and audit
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as a member of a small team, as well as part of the wider multidisciplinary team
- Basic knowledge of recent legislation and recommendations in relation to midwifery practice
- Awareness of changing trends within midwifery.
- Knowledge of research ethics and governance
- Experience in Clinical Research
- Familiar with Good Clinical Practice & Certification
- Experience of electronic data capture.
- Word processing, report writing and presentational skills.
- Experience with research databases
- Knowledge of quality, standard setting, benchmarking and audit.
- Knowledge of NMC Code of Professional Conduct
- Organisation and management skills.
- Ability to perform within a team in addition to leadership
- Articulate with advanced written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.

- Ability to perform clinical activities specific to midwifery and obstetrics
