Gloucester Gloucestershire, United Kingdom Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We are looking for motivated Band 5 nursing staff to join our friendly, supportive and progressive Neonatal team in our purpose built 28 cot Neonatal Unit. The 28 cots consist of 12 ITU/HDU and 16 Special Care cots and the service provides care to babies from across the county. A recent addition to our service is the provision of Neonatal Nursing support to our maternity ward through the establishment of a 4 cot Transitional Care facility.

All new staff are offered an 8 week supernumerary induction programme and assigned named mentors. Ongoing, continuous, professional development is an expectation of all Unit staff. This includes enrolment in the Network Foundation Education Programme for applicants who are new to Neonatal Care. Applicants will be expected to undertake the Neonatal Critical Care Course once proficient in the specialty and a Teaching & Assessing qualification when a course place is offered. Funding and study time will be provided.

Applicants who would like to rotate to our Children's unit are also very welcome to apply. We are also happy to support rotations to Maternity services if this would appeal to applicants.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should be Registered Nurses (Child Branch), Registered Nurses (Adult Branch) or Registered Midwives. Newly qualified nurses/midwives are welcome to apply as full training and induction is offered.

About us

The unit has a collaborative approach to care with good working relationships within the multi-disciplinary team and is lucky to be housed in a modern purpose built Womens Centre with excellent facilities for both staff and families. We practice Family Integrated Care and have special interest groups for Infant Feeding, Safeguarding, Developmental Care and Palliative Care. HOPE and SHED parent support groups are well embedded on the unit.

Opportunities to be involved in Quality Improvement training and projects are available to all staff. Recent projects undertaken by staff have included the introduction of Family Integrated Care and implementing ACE awareness to reduce risk to babies and promote resilience in families.
