To work within the therapy department to provide occupational therapy assessment and rehabilitation to patients with neuro-disability on an individual and group basis according to the agreed goals and objectives of patients
- Contribute to multi-disciplinary working across the Hospital and to work collaboratively with colleagues, nursing staff and other departments in the Hospital in the pursuit of providing an outstanding service and experience for patients, and to ensure effective communication with other members of the team, Patients and relatives.
- To supervise and mentor junior staff including other Occupational Therapists and/or Therapy Assistants.
- To instil in colleagues a sense of pride in the employee brand, expressed in terms of a positive ethos toward providing the most excellent rehabilitation programmes, working as part of a motivated and energetic team testing the boundaries and the possibilities for care and rehabilitation to the benefit of patients and all who work at the hospital
- To independently manage a designated caseload of clients with complex needs in spinal cord injuries and neurological conditions.
- To complete specialist assessments of clients to address their occupational performance & skill deficit using specialist standardised and non-standardised assessment tools.
- To work with clients, their carers/relatives to identify OT goals as part of the overall care plan and participate in joint goal setting and rehabilitation planning with other team members.
- To conduct and develop rehabilitation groups, working with other members of the multi / interdisciplinary team.
- To provide occupational therapy intervention at the hospital , the patient's home or other community setting.
- To carry out home visits in liaison with other health and social care professionals to identify equipment and care needs required for discharge as appropriate.
- To provide clinical specialist advice/support to the occupational therapy team and other team members as appropriate in Spinal Cord Injury management.
- To provide help and advice to patients, their families, and other carers, teaching and demonstrating relevant treatment techniques, moving, and handling and use of equipment to optimise patient's functional ability and independence.
- To represent occupational therapy and/ or individual Patients at multi-disciplinary team meetings to ensure the delivery of a coordinated service and the integration of occupational therapy.
- Maintain and develop current knowledge of evidence-based practice with the scope and remit of the Patients admitted to the Hospital, and recognise professional boundaries, seeking advice where appropriate.
- Ensure that your own practice and that of staff under your supervision meet the required professional standards of occupational therapy practice.
