A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Occupational Health team as an Occupational Hygiene Subject Matter Expert (SME) .

You will be responsible for providing functional leadership and expert advice on occupational hygiene and health risk management to support the HSE strategy (Journey to Zero Harm). Support the organisation in maximising employee health and productivity through the management of occupational exposures and prevention of occupational ill health.
Participate in global projects in support of HSE strategic deliverables.
Risk Management
Deliver / facilitate advanced health risk assessment.
Develop and support the implementation of health risk management initiatives and improvement programmes aimed at reducing risk to health.
Work with the project and design community to promote health through design by eliminating health risks at the design stage.
Provide input to the development of the Group-wide risk profile/registers for workplace and worker Health.
Provide advice to the development of Group wide training.
Develop and maintain occupational health risk assessment tools and resources.
Remain abreast of emerging occupational health risks which may impact employees and ensure these are reflected in the risk profile.

Support the development, implementation and maintenance of global policies, procedures and standards relating to occupational health and hygiene.
Provide oversight, partnering and quality assurance on external hygiene partners.
Maintain a review of any regulatory or professional changes which may impact the HSE standards and support updating of standards and any associated improvement programmes required as a result.

Performance Reporting
Input into the design and reporting of leading and lagging indicators of health risk, incidents and improvement activity.
Develop the Health Risk Reduction Metric; the internal health risk management KPI.
Prepare periodic analysis of data to provide input into Board and other reports.
Provide quality assurance/ quality control for data in hygiene related software and provide feedback to end user.

Identify and pursue opportunities to engage and communicate with leadership, employees and their representatives to promote the benefits of health risk management and its alignment to the Journey to Zero Harm.
Responsible for maintaining and developing the existing occupational hygiene communities of practice.
Represent the organisation on occupational hygiene related matters with national and international regulators, professional bodies, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.

Undertake coaching, instruction and training activities to enhance global HSE capability in occupational hygiene and health risk management.
Manage the UK outsourced occupational hygiene provision and provide guidelines for the procurement of competent occupational hygiene provision globally.
Deliver group wide training and communities of practice to keep organization updated on internal and external requirements and best practices.

Through involvement with work-related illness investigation and reporting, assist the identification of reoccurring themes to facilitate shared learning and inclusion in improvement plans.
Apply specialist knowledge and skills to conduct analysis of exposure and illness data to draw science-based conclusions regarding illness causation.
Share learning for the development of Group wide training.

Educated to degree level in a scientific discipline with a recognised post-graduate occupational hygiene qualification or equivalent professional qualification.
Certification from (or working towards) chartered membership of an international hygiene body, such as the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) or the American Board of Industrial Hygienists (ABIH).
Experience of working in a manufacturing environment or similar (oil, gas, chemicals) would be advantageous.
Strong leadership qualities with advanced analytical, inter-personal and communication skills.
Coaching ability to help others achieve improvement in performance
Willingness to travel globally to support sites.
Knowledge of HSE management software such as Benchmark, Cority, Intelex, would be beneficial.
Familiarity with asbestos surveys, management of Hazardous Substances, Air / Fume / Odour Monitoring, Noise and Vibration Monitoring, Water Hygiene Services, Heat Stress Evaluation, Toxicology and Legionella awareness will support our health risk profile.
