An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Risk Analyst to join the Strategy department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment. This role requires a strong understanding of risk management principles, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Responsible for identifying, assessing, and facilitating mitigation of risks within Fortescue WAE – ensuring stability, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. This includes:

  • Developing and implementing risk management strategies, policies and procedures
  • Collaborating across departments to standardise approach and embed risk management principles 
  • Providing visibility and recommendations to senior management 

Job role:

Risk Policy and Process Development:

  • In collaboration with the wider Fortescue business, develop and maintain risk management policies, procedures, guidelines and resources

Risk Identification, Evaluation and Control:

  • Conduct and support comprehensive risk assessments across business functions; identifying potential risks related to financial, operational, strategic, and compliance aspects (building on current work)
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement effective mitigations 
  • Monitor the effectiveness of risk controls and adapt strategies to address emerging risks

Reporting, Communication and Organisational Awareness:

  • Communicate risk-related information to relevant stakeholders, including senior management, highlighting key issues and recommendations
  • Facilitate discussion on risk management strategies and initiatives with internal and external stakeholders
  • Foster a culture of risk awareness and accountability, promote best practice and conduct training and workshops

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:

  • Identify regulatory requirements and industry standards; ensuring adherence
  • Provide advice on relevant regulations, standards and evolving best practice in risk management

Business Continuity Planning:

  • Develop and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans to ensure organisational resilience, updating plans accordingly to address evolving risks. Provide guidance and training
  • Conduct regular business impact analyses to assess the potential consequences of disruptive events 
  • Facilitate exercises and simulations to test the ongoing effectiveness of business continuity plans 

Audit Support

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on risk management practices and control frameworks
  • Provide documentation and evidence to support internal and external audit; acting on findings and recommendations

You’ll have:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree (or equivalent) in a related field. Further relevant certifications are advantageous
  • Proven experience in a risk-related role, preferably in a related industry
  • In-depth knowledge of risk principles, frameworks, methodologies and best practices 
  • Strong understanding of financial, operational, strategic, and compliance risks and their interconnections
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing risk management strategies and initiatives
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data to drive decision-making and measure performance
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and manage resources effectively
  • Experience in establishing and improving business processes, systems and ways of working
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels and influence change
  • Familiarity with relevant standards (e.g., ISO9001, ISO31000) and experience in preparing audit reports
  • Experience with risk management tools, data management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and the capacity to drive change and innovation in risk management practices
