We are seeking an aspiring Data Scientist/Analyst to join our team and support various data-focused projects in the fine wine investment sector.
3 month paid internship - Q1 2025
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge data initiatives, including collecting, cleaning, and analysing wine-related datasets as well as aiding with data engineering (AWS) and predictive modelling.
You’ll gain hands-on experience with Python and SQL for data acquisition, organisation, and insight generation touching all parts of the data process at a data centric scale-up. You’re likely to face challenges new to both you and the data team; WineFi is a FinTech platform that makes it seamless and cost-effective to invest in fine wine.
Over the past twenty years, fine wine has been one of the best performing and stable asset classes, attracting an ever growing number of investors to the space. At the same time, the process of investing in wine has remained opaque, complicated and expensive.
Our mission is to make it so easy and to invest in wine that fine wine can form a part of every investment portfolio for the very first time. Since our launch last year, we have consistently remained in full hyper-growth, attracting involvement and investment from some of the most respected figures in the global wine trade.
Perform data cleaning, ensuring accuracy in wine producer names, data matching, and correct ID code allocation.
Update and maintain relational Postgresql databases such hosted in AWS RDS.
Check datasets for completeness and flag any missing data points.
Conduct investigatory analyses, including performance tracking and quality spread analysis across regions.
Assist in scoping data collection methods, including web scraping and data pipeline setup.
Collaborate on projects to collect, match, and analyse wine ratings and tasting notes from wine critics and review websites.
Assist in the pipeline towards model building to guide finanical decisions.
Basic knowledge of Python and SQL, with a willingness to push technical skills further.
Strong attention to detail and a keen interest in data accuracy and organisation.
You will be supported at all times by WineFi’s Head of Data but you must be happy to work independently and face new challenges head on.
A proactive and collaborative attitude, coupled with a willingness to learn about the fine wine market.
Proven web-scraping experience preferred, willingness to learn is essential.
Decent mathematical skills are essential and some understanding of finance, economics and investment is a bonus.
Interest or knowledge in fine wine is a bonus, willingness to learn is a requirement.
English fluency, data literate and based in the UK.
Practical experience in data collection, cleaning, and analysis using real-world datasets as well as relational databases, python for data analytics and some exposure to data engineering.
Insights into the fine wine market, investment, finance and how data supports strategic decision-making.
Ability to direct your focus towards areas of data that interest you most.
Paid remote work that allows you to add credible real world experience to your CV.
