Following significant investment, we are expanding our Allied Health Profession provision across our inpatient mental health services. We have two band 6 physiotherapy posts, one for our North Division (Bury, Rochdale & Oldham) and one for our South Division (Tameside and Stockport) to join our expanding AHP inpatient team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with service users with a range of physiotherapy needs.
You will work closely with the physiotherapists, dietitians and speech and language therapists in the AHP Inpatient team, as well as the ward based multidisciplinary teams including nursing staff, occupational therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, pharmacists, advanced practitioners, and peer support workers. Candidates need to share our passion for delivering high quality interventions within a range of inpatient services, including working age adult mental health as well as our services providing inpatient rehabilitation and high support.


You will need to be an autonomous practitioner who is able to prioritise and manage their own physiotherapy caseload, using enhanced clinical reasoning to formulate treatment plans and interventions. You will be supervised by one of our band 7 clinical lead physiotherapists and we will support you to develop your skills and creativity in this role through separate management and clinical supervision. You will link with our wider physiotherapy workforce through our trust wide physiotherapy forum. We expect candidates to network with other colleagues across the trust and beyond to develop practice and service provision including active membership of physiotherapy networks in mental health. In line with our flexible working policy candidates can be full time or part time and we offer a range of options to support flexibility. To undertake physiotherapy assessments and treatments for patients with mental health needs on inpatient wardsTo receive referrals from a range of inpatient services and prioritise physiotherapy actions and assessment as requiredTo work with patients to identify physiotherapy goals as part of the overall care planTo plan and implement individual and/or group interventions, in collaboration with the patient, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals


To monitor and evaluate treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of the interventionTo gain consent or assess patients capacity and act in best interests under the Mental Capacity Act at all timesTo communicate effectively with patients, family members, carers, team members and other agenciesTo use enhanced communication skills in situations where there are barriers to understanding, effectiveness or complianceTo actively participate as a member of multidisciplinary team meetings and take an active role in decisions with regard to each patients assessment, treatment and onward planning


To review and reflect on your own practice and performance through effective use of clinical and managerial supervision and appraisal


To develop and work towards agreed objectives in order to develop physiotherapy and personal skillsTo apply acquired skills and knowledge of professional practice in order to maintain fitness to practice as a physiotherapistTo maintain a professional portfolio for CPD, recording learning outcomes through participation in internal and external development opportunities


To contribute to the CPD of the physiotherapy team and the AHP inpatient team
Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent. (Short courses and experience to post graduate diploma level
Clinical experience of working with people with mental health conditions.
Experience of delivering group therapy sessions.
Impact of mental health issues on patient activation, compliance and outcomes.
Ability to work with people with mental health needs, cognitive impairment and behaviours that challenge
Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
Student placement in a mental health setting.

Use of a car or access to a means of mobility to travel across the Trust footprint in line with service needs
