About The Role

Woodrow leads on terrestrial ecology delivery in Ireland for the APEM Group and works on a large variety of ecology projects, including impact assessments for infrastructure proposals (including renewable energy, linear transport and recreation projects, housing and quarry proposals), habitat and species surveys, biodiversity planning and community projects.

We are actively seeking a Principal Ecologist to join our expanding team. As a crucial member of our Senior Management team, you will play a pivotal role in leading the development and implementation of ecological consultancy services. Your responsibilities will include providing comprehensive expertise in project management, notably by furnishing high-quality insights for various projects, with a special focus on crafting Biodiversity Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA). Additionally, you will contribute significantly to shaping our future company strategies in this area of work, amongst others.

In this role, you will be instrumental in steering the direction of our ecology team based in Sligo. You'll be involved inhelping lead the direction of our ecology team in Sligo, and ensuring exceptional quality fieldwork and impact assessment is carried out across the Irish Sector. We are particularly interested in candidates with extensive experience in handling intricate ecological impact assessments and crafting Biodiversity Chapters for EIA, as well as proficiency in producing other technical reports.

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Six years plus-post graduate experience in environmental consultancy or similar.
  • Excellent understanding of Ecological Impact Assessment and EIA (particularly Biodiversity Chapters).
  • Experience managing others and/or a team.
  • A broad range of ecological experience on large-scale projects in key sectors, notably with well-developed expertise in impact assessment of infrastructure proposals.
  • A thorough knowledge of ecological legislation and planning policy in Ireland, Northern Ireland and EU.
  • Excellent report writing skills and proven project management abilities.
  • An excellent understanding of the EU Habitats Directive in so far as they relate to project-based ecological impact assessments being undertaken by an ecological consultancy.
