The Role

We are building a community of IT volunteers to work on exciting projects which have the possibility to impact technology use across the charity sector. To ensure we establish good practices and a strong community from the outset we need help recruiting and retaining talent.

Accountabilities:

  • Strategic HR advice to build the right culture and capabilities
  • Recruitment Support to define role descriptions and discover talent
  • Volunteer Engagement across our volunteer community to build a strong network
  • Relationship Building with Volunteer Supervisors
  • HR Policy and Process Provision to assure compliance, performance and support
  • People Data Compliance (GDPR) to ensure data is responsibly collected and stored through its lifecycle

One person is not expected to cover all of the above but will be part of a team. Volunteers often work in a role-sharing capacity with like-minded professionals. This brings the value of collaboration and ensures volunteers balance personal time commitments without impacting delivery schedules. There are no set hours, and individual responsibilities/availability can be discussed as part of project planning and role-share options.

All ITfG volunteer roles are remote and open to applications from any location.

The person

Before any skills requirements, we are looking for people who share our principles, particularly those of contributing social value and open knowledge sharing. Other principles include being business-led and taking a practical standards-first approach.

As a volunteer community there it is little hierarchy, so candidates must be:

  • Self-organising
  • Comfortable sharing work with peers
  • Proactive in taking responsibility and providing solutions
  • Flexible in taking on whatever needs to be done

Charity sector experience is valuable, but we value a mix of influences and welcome experts from all backgrounds.

The same is true for HR subject matter expertise, where we need a broad set of capabilities across the team.

Skills:

  • IT or Volunteer Recruitment experience
  • Engagement and community building
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Capacity and capability assessment and planning
  • HR Business partnering
  • CIPD qualified or working towards a CIPD
  • Coaching, guiding, and challenging mid-senior level managers
  • HR best practices and data compliance knowledge
