Veterinary Surgeon - Hospitalist
Swift Referrals, Wetherby, Thorp Arch Estate Wetherby, Yorkshire & The Humber

This position involves working within our hospital helping to run our first opinion out-of-hours service, as well as assisting our Referral Clinicians to provide round-the-clock gold standard care to our inpatients. This role provides an interesting and diverse mix of first-opinion emergency consultations, diagnostics and surgery, as well as assisting our referral clinicians with complex investigations and inpatient care.
Our full-time hospital vets predominantly work a 40-hour week composed of mostly weekday shifts, but some night shifts and weekend shifts are required and shared amongst the team. As part of our commitment to support individual and flexible working patterns, where appropriate, we would be happy to discuss specific schedules.
Swift Referrals and Emergencies is a specialist-led referral and emergency hospital located on the outskirts of Wetherby in West Yorkshire. We have state of the art technology including a purpose-built intensive care unit, which has all the emergency equipment you should need including point-of-care ultrasonography, oxygen kennels, ICU bays and cots for critical patients, multiparameter monitoring and its own radiography suite. Our extensive in-house laboratory facilities include tests such as coagulation profiles, blood gases, cortisol, CSF cytospin, as well as the usual blood and urinalysis equipment you would expect. 5T siemens MRI scanner, 128 slice GE CT scanner, doppler ultrasound and endoscopy.
Most importantly, we have a large team of talented veterinary professionals including: our referral clinicians, which are led by two European Specialists; hospital clinicians who support our referral departments and run our out-of-hours service; nursing and ACA teams who provide gold standard care to our patients; and our client care team, who provide our clients with the best service. We are committed to the wellbeing and development of our team and regularly have in-house CPD sessions as well as fun team building activities and treats.
Experience treating common small animal first-opinion medical and surgical emergencies is required.
