After 1 August 2020, Education Authorities can only appoint the following categories of people as permanent Head Teachers:-
- People who have achieved the Standard for Headship.
- People appointed as permanent Head Teachers of a public school, a grant-aided school or an independent school on or before 1 August 2020.
A person who has not yet achieved the Standard for Headship may be appointed as a head teacher, provided the appointment does not exceed 30 months.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Head Teacher to join the team at Windyknowe Primary School and Early Learning and Childcare (ELC).
Windyknowe Primary and ELC strive to create a respectful and trusting community in which all contributions are valued. They work in partnership to provide a safe, nurturing and supportive environment which encourages each individual to develop to their full potential to become a healthy, valuable member of society.
Windyknowe Primary School and ELC is a non-denominational school serving Bathgate and Armadale which is part of the Armadale Academy Cluster. The school roll for session 2023-24 is currently 365 pupils, organised across 15 classes. The ELC will be re-opening in August 2024 following a temporary closure due to building works. In addition to the Class Teachers and Support for Learning Teacher, the management structure consists of a Head Teacher, Depute Head Teacher and a Principal Teacher. The school is supported by a team of Pupil Support workers that work across the school. ELC staffing will include; 1 Early Years Officer and 5 full time Early Years Practitioners.
The school has a strong community ethos and benefits from a supportive and proactive Parent Council and Parent Staff Association. The Parent Council works in close partnership with the school and is committed to improving the work and life of the school as well as organising fundraising events throughout the school year.

Our dedication is demonstrated by the whole council achievement of the Investors in People Standard and always aiming a little higher in our service delivery and improvements.
A relevant teaching qualification and registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland is essential.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Successful candidates will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment and the cost will be met by the candidate.
The fee for a Full PVG Scheme Membership is £59 or Existing Member is £18.
