The role

Are you a highly skilled Electronics Technician / Electronic Development Engineer, with proven expertise in fault finding down to component level?

Do you have a passion for product development and innovation? Join our expanding team at Smiths Detection and be part of a fast-paced, dynamic environment where you’ll contribute to the entire product lifecycle – from concept through to production support.

Based from our CoE at Hemel Hempstead, you'll need to be in the office at least 3 days a week.

Please note, we can only consider UK based applicants that hold Settled Status or a British Passport, as we need to put you through SC level clearance.

As an Development Engineer, you will be a key player in supporting the development of high-quality, in-demand products sold into regulated environments. You will assist design engineers, support the build and test of concept designs, and ensure successful project delivery across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fault Finding & Diagnostics: Demonstrate your 5+ years of fault-finding experience at the component level in the development and testing of cutting-edge electronic products.
  • Product Development: Support the full product lifecycle, from new product development to updates and retirement.
  • Testing & Verification: Conduct verification tests to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to drive project success.
  • Documentation & Support: Develop test procedures, document results, and support technical product design throughout its life cycle.
  • Continuous Improvement: Optimize design concepts for cost-effectiveness and apply lean principles to improve processes.

Education:

HNC/ONC Qualification or Equivalent: A solid educational background in electronics.
