The Company:

A powerhouse within North East Manufacturing is looking for a Supplier Quality Engineer to join their operation. Producing a range of electrical components, this organization has grown into a leader within its field, showing multiple sites across the UK and abroad.

Job Description

  • Assist with the selection and evaluation of new suppliers, supporting the Procurement team and wider stakeholders with the NPI process.
  • Develop and manage suppliers to ensure high-quality components and materials.
  • Measure supplier quality performance and drive appropriate improvements to meet targets. Updating internal KPIs as required.
  • Supporting suppliers to use required quality tools (i.e. PPAP, FMEA etc)
  • Conduct supplier audits as dictated by business requirements.
  • Schedule and support supplier incoming inspections and issues identified in production. Develop work instructions and provide training if required.
  • Lead the SCAR process to ensure the CAPA process is completed- including containment, root cause investigation, and corrective action. To investigate and resolve supplier-related quality issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive process improvements and ensure effective supplier quality management.
  • Mentor the Quality Technicians, supporting their development in their roles.
  • Support the management of the QMS, seeking ways to improve.
  • Lead continuous improvements, and projects that have been identified by site KPIs.
  • Due to the nature of the role travel to suppliers will be required.
  • Support 8D problem-solving for internal and external issues. Developing quality control systems and determining corrective actions.
  • Support risk (PFMEA) documentation review activities and ensure that all failure modes in the process have been identified and addressed.

Skills & experience

  • Previous experience in a supplier-facing role.
  • Relevant degree in Business, Electronics, Engineering, etc. OR time-served experience in previous roles.
  • Relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience working in an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 environments.
  • Certified ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 Internal Auditor. Including 2nd party audits.
  • Working knowledge / Experience of IATF 16949 and the core tools.
  • Competent in standard quality processes, i.e. Control Plans, DFMEA, PFMEA SCAR etc
  • Experience with Quality Management systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in leading 8D problem solving activities.
