As a Principal Civil Design Engineer, you will work in various sectors including railway, highways, renewables, and utilities, using your technical knowledge to design, build, and maintain the nation’s infrastructure systems within a multifunctional design consultancy and engineering services team.

The Principal Engineer will perform a variety of functions in first principles of engineering design. You will be a technical expert in civil engineering with chartered status and ideally signed off as Design CRE, with experience in rail, structures, ancillary civils, highways, or other infrastructure sectors.

The Principal Design Engineer will lead on discipline-specific design packages, which will include Technical Specifications, Performance Specifications, Written Reports (Design and Feasibility), preparation of design packs for interdisciplinary design checks/reviews, preparation of Approved for Construction design packages, and production of As-Built Information. Mentoring and offering support to more junior designers will also be expected.

Requirements for the role:

  1. Qualifications:
  • Civil Engineering Degree or Masters
  • Chartered civil engineer
  • Signed off CRE Design or sufficient experience to be mentored in sign off
  • Experience:
  • Undertake first principles of engineering design
  • Technical engineering mindset with a can-do approach
  • 7+ years of experience in Civil engineering design
  • Operated at a Senior Engineer level ready to step up or at Principal engineer level
  • Experience of structures, ancillary civils, highways, or other infrastructure civils design
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior engineers providing technical expertise and delivery on scopes of work.
