Head of Finance

We are currently recruiting for a Head of Finance who will thrive in a fast paced, dynamic owner managed company. Following the MBO, the FD has moved up to the MD position and would like someone to join that will lead the finance function. Initially the key responsibilities will be around maintaining a strong grip on the finance function, owning on a day-to-day basis the processes and outputs relating to financial controls and reporting and use clear financial analysis to support strategic decision making of the business. Over time the role will evolve into a more strategic position potentially encompassing other central functions and also managing relationships with key external stakeholders.
Accounting & Reporting
Overall responsibility for the company’s accounting function
Timely and accurate production of statutory and internal financial reports
Develop the current suite of Management Reporting Packs to include sensitivity analysis and dynamic dashboards for senior management.
Take ultimate responsibility for cash management, Including understanding and modelling the company’s forward cashflow position
FX/Treasury responsibility
Understand all aspects of the company’s stock controls, and how this impacts the on-going financial position of the business
Use modelling tools to analyse company sales volumes and gross margins by customer and by product group
FP&A and Commercial
Providing financial analysis and guidance on all company activities, plans, targets and business drivers so that quotations are priced appropriately.
Preparation of budgets, quarterly forecasts and cash flows, and aiding departments to maintain spending within budget.
Financial modelling and sensitive analysis around current and future business performance on a daily basis
Provide effective business partnering to key department (Sales, Manufacturing etc) to drive performance and profitability whilst managing risk.
Systems, Process and People
Manage the finance function and oversee and develop the finance team.
Provide good corporate governance, ensuring that appropriate systems and internal controls are implemented, maintained and audited.
Develop systems and processes to adequately support current and future business requirements.
Support in driving IT innovation and automation across the business
Key competences and skills
Qualified accountant.
Strong technical knowledge of accounting and ability to apply to real business scenarios and communicate effectively.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and be proactive in all aspects of role
High level of computer literacy including exposure to ERP systems
Effective communicator, both written and verbal.
Demonstrate tenacity to identify and initiate business improvement actions across the wider business.
Ability to manage team on day to day and basis, including coaching colleagues.
Understanding of how the performance of other departments affects overall profitability
Personal Experience & Attributes
Able to take an holistic business approach whilst maintaining a strong grip on detail
Must take real pride in “the numbers” – driven to produce accurate robust information
Ability to work with operations and the leadership team to drive performance
Able to produce quick, accurate analyses e.g. business cases, “dice & slice”, what-ifs
Team player with demonstrable man management skills
Robust character, self-starter able to operate autonomously.
Comfortable in fast paced dynamic company with Owner Manager culture
Worked within manufacturing sector
Involvement in business / operational focused projects, e.g. lean, cost reduction projects, forecasting, cashflow
