Reports to: Contracts Manager

Role Overview

The Project Manager is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to ensure the successful delivery of assigned projects. This includes financial monitoring and control, adherence to contractual timelines, and strict compliance with environmental, health & safety, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Primary Contact: Serve as the main point of contact for key customer contracts, anticipate customer needs, ensure deadlines are met, and support contract compliance to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Business Development Managers and the Contracts Manager to enhance business prospects when required.
  • Team Management: Lead, monitor, and support the project team to achieve project objectives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain strong relationships with key internal departments and stakeholders to ensure successful cross-functional collaboration.
  • Project Ownership: Take full responsibility for project delivery, including the implementation, monitoring, and development of construction programs and financial controls to meet key performance indicators.
  • Resource Management: Manage both direct and indirect resources to ensure compliance with project timelines.
  • Progress Review: Attend progress meetings with internal and external customers, providing timely support and corrective actions to ensure project success, budget adherence, and strong customer relationships.
  • Compliance: Ensure all projects adhere to industry standards, company quality and compliance standards, and customer SLAs, taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Health & Safety Leadership: Lead by example in ensuring full compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) regulations, standards, and company procedures.
  • Personnel & Supply Chain Management: Plan and manage direct employees, sub-contractors, and the supply chain to ensure successful project execution.
  • Commercial & Financial Management: Oversee financial aspects of the project, including monthly applications, variations, and contractual notices to clients, sub-contractors, and the supply chain.
  • Reporting: Produce and analyse project progress reports, costs, and forecasts as required by business and contractual needs.
  • Quality & Improvement: Monitor quality standards and continuously seek improvements in company procedures.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Proven experience in project management within the construction or engineering sectors, including contract negotiation and relationship management.
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience in project costing and contract management.
  • Extensive experience in managing teams, direct employees, and sub-contractors.
  • Excellent people management skills with the ability to influence, coach, and mentor others.
  • In-depth knowledge of contract law, with experience in administering NEC, JCT, or similar contracts.
  • Solid understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and resource planning.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction health and safety requirements, including the management of RAMS and sub-contractors.
  • Certified in IOSH or SMSTS and holds a current CSCS/VCA card.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers at all levels.
  • Experience in achieving SLAs, identifying gaps in standards, and implementing improvement solutions.
  • Strong track record in achieving performance targets and driving results through metrics.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a focus on leading by example.
  • Proficient in organizing and coordinating multiple priorities while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Resilient, adaptable, and proactive, with the ability to respond to daily workload changes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with experience in delivering action plans to resolve issues and disputes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in Fire, Security, Data, or Electrical Contracting.
  • Educated to HNC level or equivalent industry experience.
  • Familiarity with Eque2 or similar contract management software.
  • Experience with MS Project or other project planning software.
