FPG is recruiting for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer with experience on UK telecommunication operators / projects with the likes of Vodafone, CTIL / Cornerstone, MBNL etc.


This opportunity is for a skilled Electrical Subject Matter Expert and you will be given the opportunity to lead, drive and support a team of offshore engineers focused on front-end site design. You’ll play a pivotal role in enhancing their expertise and aligning processes with evolving customer design guidelines. Your knowledge will also be instrumental in assisting commercial discussions with the Accounts team, Customer, and our client's approved service providers.


In this position, you will leverage your skills to support designs across several areas, including Civils, Steel Frame, Piling and Concrete, Special Foundations, and solutions for structural failures or end-of-life structures. You’ll contribute to telecom structure analysis and assist the in-house design team by conducting electrical calculations, validating designs, and providing final approvals. Additionally, you'll engage with AutoCAD to aid with drawing preparations, and review new design documentation to incorporate changes into front-end design processes for accurate results from the outset.

Key responsibilities

  • Involve mentoring on/offshore design engineers, reviewing project-specific documentation, and providing guidance, support, and training.
  • You’ll collaborate closely with both the in-house design team and external partners to ensure all designs comply with relevant regulations.
  • Creating detailed specifications, reading General Arrangements and Detailed Designs, and addressing potential project challenges proactively are essential.
  • Your support will extend to developing practical demonstrations for solutions and monitoring project progress alongside management teams.
  • Facilitating engineering-driven solutions, running design workshops, and chairing client meetings to offer electrical guidance are also part of the role.


Experience:

  • A BSc/BEng in Electrical Engineering (IET membership preferred but not mandatory)
  • At least three years of experience on Telecoms Design Projects, ideally including Vodafone or Cornerstone projects
  • Expertise in producing electrical calculations, with proficiency in BS7671 18th Edition Regulations and BS EN 62305 for Lightning Protection
  • Experience in designing for both AC and DC loads, with strong project management, leadership, and mentoring skills
  • A professional background in electrical designs for telecom sites (both new builds and upgrades)
  • Ability to collaborate with various departments for seamless execution of project and site-level designs
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D for electrical schematics and drawings, along with experience in electrical calculation software (such as Modecsoft)
  • Strong communication skills to train offshore resources and guide client decisions
