Position Overview

Responsible for the design and development of mechanical systems and components for industrial machinery and equipment. This role includes leading smaller design projects, overseeing the work of junior engineers, and ensuring that designs meet all relevant standards, quality, and safety requirements.


Key Responsibilities

1. Design and Development

– Develop and optimize mechanical designs for industrial machinery and equipment.

– Perform detailed calculations and analysis using tools such as FEA and CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).

– Ensure that designs comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., ASME, IMCA).

– Create and review technical drawings, specifications, and documentation.


2. Project Management

– Lead and manage smaller projects or specific workstreams within larger projects.

– Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality, and procurement to ensure design feasibility and cost-effectiveness.

– Conduct design reviews and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.


3. Quality Assurance

– Ensure all designs meet the required quality and safety standards.

– Develop and maintain design documentation and standards.

– Address technical issues during production and provide support for troubleshooting and problem-solving.


4. Mentorship and Training

– Mentor and support junior engineers in developing their skills and knowledge.

– Provide technical leadership within the team.


Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.


Related Work Experience

  • Extensive experience in mechanical design and engineering.
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and analysis tools like Ansys. Extensive knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ASME, DNV, IMCA).


Functional Skills

  • Precision and Accuracy: Consistently produce detailed, accurate designs and analyses using FEA and CAD software, ensuring mechanical systems are well-engineered and meet project requirements.
  • Standards Compliance: Rigorously ensure that all designs adhere to relevant industry standards (e.g., ASME, IMCA), maintaining regulatory compliance and quality assurance throughout the design process.
  • Effective Leadership: Lead smaller projects or workstreams with a focus on achieving milestones, managing resources, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
  • Clear Communication: Facilitate design reviews and provide clear, actionable feedback to junior engineers, fostering effective collaboration and alignment with project goals.
  • Adherence to Standards: Ensure that all designs meet established quality and safety standards and develop comprehensive design documentation to support consistent and high-quality outcomes.
  • Proactive Problem Solving: Address and resolve technical issues during production promptly, providing support and solutions to ensure smooth operations and maintain product integrity.
  • Skill Development: Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance, sharing expertise, and supporting their professional development to enhance their technical and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership and Support: Exhibit strong technical leadership and create an environment where team members feel encouraged to seek advice and grow within their roles.
