Our client is a small team of experienced paediatric occupational therapists with a range of experience and skills that provides the opportunity for peer supervision and support.


They have two Sensory Integration gym clinic bases in the UK- one in Surrey and one in East Hampshire, but also provide occupational therapy input within the community and in schools.

The team have post graduate training and experience in Ayres Sensory Integration, Sensory Attachment Intervention Lvl 1, DMM Attachment Mode, Kelly Mahler’s Interoception programme, Therapeutic Listening programme, Quickshifts, Cognitive Orientation to Daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP).


They are looking for an Occupational Therapist who is passionate about working with children and young people and who shares their ethos that to bring therapeutic change, it is necessary to include the family as a whole. They believe in a mind, body, heart and soul approach when working with children and young people. Building a therapeutic relationship is key.


Their aim is to provide specialist Occupational Therapy Services to children 0-16 years. Children may present with a variety of diagnosis, including, Sensory Processing Disorder, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Dyspraxia, Cerebral Palsy, Dyslexia, Speech and Language delay/disorders, global developmental delay or neurological disorders.


The Therapist will be involved in assessment, report writing and formulation of appropriate

intervention plans for children referred from local paediatrician, parents or schools.

Working holistically with families to ensure child centred care.


Responsibilities:


  • To be responsible as an autonomous practitioner to undertake a clinical workload.
  • To undertake assessments of children, using both standardised and informal assessment tools.
  • To demonstrate developing clinical reasoning and ability to interpret assessment data and write clinical assessment reports.
  • To devise child/family centred treatment plans through use of goal attainment scaling, considering a wide range of treatment techniques, grading activities to ensure that the individual’s full potential is developed or maintained.
  • To conduct 1:1 and small group treatment sessions in school and/or clinic.
  • To provide a high standard of clinical record keeping.
  • To provide an effective high-quality service to all children and families.


To communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team to promote the safety of children and the management of risk. Because of the changing nature of their business there may be aspects of your job description that may evolve or change over time. You may, from time to time, be required to undertake other activities of a similar nature that fall within your capabilities as directed by management.


Qualifications


  • Recognised Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Health Professions Council – Licence to Practice
  • Evidence of successful completion of a range of other short courses at postgraduate level
  • Evidence of attendance at other specialist course relevant to paediatrics


Required skills and experience


  • Clinical experience of wide range of paediatric work in clinical or educational settings
  • Co-ordination of intervention planning in paediatrics
  • Clinical experience of working with children with a wide range of needs including Autistic Spectrum disorders, Dyspraxia, Sensory Processing Disorder and neurological disorders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – including observation, listening and empathy skills e.g. breaking bad news or explaining upsetting conditions to patients / families
  • Demonstrates excellent analytical and reflection skills at clinical levels
  • Well-developed concentration skills and ability to multi-task, and work with frequent interruptions of complex nature
  • Excellent presentation skills, both verbal and written, of complex information to other professionals
  • Demonstrates high level of computer literacy to enable effective data collection, report and document writing
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Demonstrates ability to be a good team member
  • Able to synthesise and present complex information at a service level
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance /audit
