Learning & Development Specialist

Location: Hybrid role - with UK travel

Hours: Full time Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week

Salary: Up to £36,000, depending on experience

The role



This is an exciting opportunity to join the Marshall HR Team. You will be helping to ensure our new starters are set up for success and supported at every stage of the people lifecycle.


We’re looking for a Learning and Development Specialist to help our people increase their skills, knowledge and demonstrate our company values. In this role, you should be passionate about helping people learn and grow. The role is focused on designing and delivering training both virtually and face to face to support our people achieving their maximum potential.


If you also have experience designing e-learning courses or administering psychometric profiling like Insights Discovery, we’d like to meet you. Ultimately, you will help our company succeed by helping our people learn and develop to be the best they can be.



Who you are



  • Strong ‘service provider’ ethic and passionate about delivering to their ‘customers’
  • Strong knowledge of FCA regulated products incl consumer duty
  • Expert L&D knowledge including best practices, theories and design principles
  • Good understanding and experience of using various L&D approaches and methods, e.g. virtual, face to face, blended, 70:20:10 principle
  • Tech and digitally “savvy” – particularly social media, learning platforms (LMS), Excel and Powerpoint
  • Experience in creating innovative content for every stage of the people lifecycle – on boarding, induction, soft skills and performance management
  • Strong training facilitation and delivery skills and the ability to engage colleagues to make learning stick
  • Experience of designing and delivering L&D interventions to a variety of business functions and experience levels
  • Outstanding relationship and stakeholder management skills
  • High energy, drive, proactive and passionate about developing people
  • Good commercial and business acumen, ability to think strategically and be operational
  • “Can do” attitude and growth mind-set that anything is possible

  • The ability to deliver both face-to-face and online training
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of different learning styles
  • Previous experience of using Insights Discovery or similar profiling tools advantageous but not essential
  • Broader HR qualification, e.g. CIPD or equivalent qualifications
  • Ideally have some generalist HR and talent management experience to enable bigger picture thinking


What you’ll do


Customer / Strategy / Plan

  • Deliver the induction and on-boarding programme for all Marshall colleagues ensuring our new recruits are set up for success
  • Continuously improve our induction and on-boarding programme content, and facilitate the sessions virtually or physically across various locations
  • Facilitate sales training programmes to new and existing colleagues ensuring everyone is compliant to deliver good customer outcomes
  • Facilitate aftersales/service training programme to new and existing colleagues ensuring we drive customer loyalty and retention through our services and aftercare
  • Facilitate leadership programmes for first level and mid-level managers to help them drive business performance through their teams
  • Support the L&D Manager to design and deliver innovative learning and development, in line with our business needs and objectives
  • Facilitate core skills workshops for the graduates and Business Apprentices as and when required
  • Maintain a keen understanding of learning & development trends, research and best practices
  • Support training needs analysis and robust evaluation processes as and when required


People/Leadership

  • To role model the company Values and Behaviours at all times
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders to understand learning requirements across all areas of the business


Financial / Commercials

  • Report on training activity ensuring ROI: efficiency, best quality, value, compliance
  • To highlight external training best practice and research to help implement any changes as required


Risk / Process

  • Ensure all new training requests are scoped out and reviewed/approved by L&D Manager


Decision Making/Freedom to Act

  • Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness, success and ROI and produce MI dashboards with recommendations for future learning
  • Analyse training needs and MI to align materials to business goals and understand training needs
