AcquireGeo-4D Overview

Geo-4D is an independent geoscience consultancy and survey specialist based in Faringdon, Oxfordshire, UK, with a focus on offshore geoscience and geodata acquisition, processing and interpretation.


Our geoscience consultancy department conducts analysis and integration of geophysical, geotechnical and geological datasets to characterise site conditions and hazards, largely within the offshore renewable energy and interconnector cable sectors.


Our geodata acquisition department specialises in using novel techniques to characterise complex onshore, intertidal and shallow marine sites.


The Position

Geo-4D is looking for a Graduate Consultant Geoscientist to join the team. The role will largely support the Offshore Geoconsultancy department, whilst also supporting the Geodata Acquisition department, as required.


The Offshore Geoconsultancy role will involve working on offshore renewable projects; reviewing, interpreting and integrating multidisciplinary datasets to assess and report on site conditions and site risk. The work will comprise a variety of project tasks, including desktop studies, geophysical and geotechnical survey design and oversight, geophysical and geotechnical data review and interpretation using various software packages, ground modelling, cable burial risk assessment and technical reporting.


The Geodata Acquisition work will comprise a mix of site survey work using uncrewed surface vehicles (UAVs), uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) and various geophysical techniques, and office-based data processing, data interpretation and reporting.


The Graduate Consultant Geoscientist will also be required to perform project management duties, support business development, assist with tendering, and support day-to-day running of the organisation, in additional to the technical project-based responsibilities. Training will be provided as required.


The role will be largely office-based with site works as required.


Responsibilities and Indicative Division of Time

Offshore Geoconsultancy – technical (60%)

  • Review, process and interpret offshore geophysical and geotechnical datasets
  • Develop engineering geological desk studies and ground models
  • Geohazard identification
  • Cable burial risk assessment
  • Integrated ground modelling
  • Technical reporting
  • GIS-based geoprocessing, database management, figure and chart creation

Geodata Acquisition – technical (20%)

  • Prepare pre-operational documentation
  • Acquire UAV-based photogrammetry, LiDAR and magnetometer data
  • Acquire USV bathymetric and geophysical datasets
  • Conduct geological mapping
  • Process datasets and compile operational, factual and interpretative reports

Technical and commercial tendering (10%)

  • Assist with technical and commercial tenders, proposal documents and cost/time/resources breakdowns
  • Liaise with clients to determine project requirements and define suitable scopes of work

Project/financial management (5%)

  • Perform project management duties, including deadline management, financial tracking and budget management

Business development and day-to-day business operations (5%)

  • Develop new services, processes and workflows
  • Assist with the maintenance of the website and social media sites
  • Assist with ongoing maintenance and improvement of the integrated management system (quality, OHS and environment)


Required Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate should hold an earth sciences bachelor’s degree and ideally a related postgraduate degree. Candidates should have demonstrable geological problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail, and application of their technical knowledge to real-world geoscience situations.


The following are considered beneficial to fulfilling the role:

  • Any geoscience industry experience
  • Reviewing and interpreting offshore geophysical, geotechnical and geological datasets
  • Loading, reviewing and processing data in ArcGIS software
  • Producing figures in CorelDraw software
  • Technical report writing and communication skills
