Job Title: Systems Security Architect
Salary: Up to £65,000 (dependent on experience)
Location: Stevenage or Bristol (relocation package may be available)
Dynamic (hybrid) working: We offer a flexible approach to working, combining on-site and remote working where possible, subject to project requirements.
Security Clearance: British Citizen (DV clearance desirable or eligibility to go through the DV clearance process).
About the Opportunity
Are you an experienced Systems Security Architect looking for your next challenge? In this pivotal role, you'll have the opportunity to lead and shape security solutions for cutting-edge defence systems. You’ll be responsible for designing and delivering comprehensive technical security measures, balancing the trade-offs between performance, safety, and cost, all while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and integrity.
This is a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment, where your technical expertise will directly impact the success of highly classified and mission-critical systems. You will play a leading role in ensuring that security requirements are met throughout the lifecycle of complex missile and weapon systems, engaging with internal teams, external suppliers, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Task Package Management: Lead activities across the Engineering Directorate, managing a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to design and deliver a robust, effective technical security solution within agreed budgets and timescales.
- Security Solutions: Manage the trade-space of protective measures to ensure the best balance between security, product safety, and customer capability without compromise.
- Security Case Development: Prepare and maintain a comprehensive security case, liaising with the UK Customer and their technical advisors to ensure the sufficiency of the solution.
- Cross-Disciplinary Leadership: Oversee the design and integration of security measures across various engineering domains (hardware, software, firmware), ensuring the solution is coherent, testable, and meets all requirements.
- Lifecycle Support: Work with manufacturing and support teams to guarantee the ongoing confidentiality and integrity of missile and weapon systems through production and throughout the system's life cycle.
- Information Control: Apply the “Need to Know” principle to ensure the secure handling of sensitive information, providing direction on the release of technical details to suppliers and customers as necessary.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a highly skilled Systems Security Architect with a strong technical background, ideally with experience in the defence or aerospace sectors. You’ll need to bring:
- Extensive Knowledge of missile/weapon system design, including managing the trade-offs within the system design process to ensure security, performance, and safety are not compromised.
- Strong Communication Skills: The ability to engage with multi-disciplinary teams, technical experts, senior management, and customers. You’ll need to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to resolve technical issues and manage complex relationships.
- Engineering Expertise: A background in systems engineering, electronics design, embedded software, or firmware is desirable. You’ll need to demonstrate a deep understanding of how these areas integrate into overall system security.
- Security Clearances: Ideally, you will be DV cleared or eligible to go through the Developed Vetting (DV) process.
- Problem-Solving and Leadership: Proven ability to listen, evaluate, and resolve both management and technical challenges, while maintaining the organisation's reputation with customers.
Why Work in Defence?
- Impactful Projects: You will contribute directly to the development of cutting-edge defence technologies that protect nations and ensure the security of our armed forces.
- Innovative Solutions: This role involves solving complex, high-stakes problems, with the chance to influence the design of advanced security solutions for mission-critical systems.
- Career Growth: The defence sector offers unparalleled career development opportunities, with access to advanced training and the chance to grow your expertise in a highly specialised field.
- Job Stability & Benefits: Along with a competitive salary, you’ll enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including a generous pension scheme, bonuses, and enhanced parental leave.
What We Offer
- Bonus: Up to 21% of base salary
- Pension: Employer and employee contributions up to 14%
- Parental Leave: Enhanced maternity, adoption, shared parental, paternity, neonatal, and fertility treatment leave
- Training and Development: Access to career development programmes, mentorship, and professional growth opportunities
- Facilities: Fantastic on-site facilities, including subsidised meals, free parking, and much more...
