The service you will work in….

The Lewisham older adults day service at the Calabash centre provides support to older people aged 65 and over living in the borough of Lewisham to socialise and stay active. The centre is available for people living with dementia, a physical disability, an acquired brain injury and/or a mental health condition. We support service users to be more socially connected and less isolated, helping service users to maintain skills and competencies for longer.

We also support service users with their nutritional needs to maintain their health, to promote mental health and wellbeing, to support services users to remain independent in their homes, to assist service users to maintain long standing relationships and to give family/carers a break from their caring responsibilities.

A day in this role looks like….

As a Team Leader at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Mental Health and Complex Needs service. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence.

A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are:

  • Responsible for facilitating effective partnership joint-working, liaison with & clarifying roles and responsibilities of parties.
  • Reaching out to local organisations, groups and services (both existing relationships and seeking new business).
  • Continually update and grow the directory and proactively reach out to these organisations and groups.
  • To encourage wider use of the Calabash and turn it into an impactful, vibrant hub for the Lewisham community (in-line with Lewisham's vision for its citizens).
  • Responsible for the overall management of the building (fulfilling full repair lease).
  • To ensure the Centre is a safe (e.g., access to PPE, robust Business Continuity Plan/Policies & Procedures) and Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) for all attendees/partners by creating/maintaining a welcoming space.
  • Helping older people maintain their health, wellbeing, and independence to live at home or access the community for as long as is possible.
  • Promoting peer support for individuals and groups.
  • Promoting a sense of community and inclusion through a collaborative partnership approach with other statutory and voluntary bodies.
  • Enabling older people to feel valued and contributing members of the community.
  • Promoting positive cultural awareness, tolerance and understanding.
  • Developing promotion/marketing materials and providing information and choice in a way that supports individual needs.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage information, analyse performance and practice in the team and make recommendations for change.
  • Level 2 to 3 Diploma in Adult Care (or its equivalent).
