Ophthalmic AssistantAshtead Hospital Full Time - 37.5 HoursThe Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ophthalmic Assistant to join the team at Ashtead Hospital, where you will provide a high standard of individualised patient care as part of the clinical team.
Ophthalmic Technicians are integral to everything we do within the Ophthalmology team. You will be supporting the running of outpatient clinics by taking patients through a series of tests. This will involve you assessing patient’s vision and performing diagnostic and will come into the role with an establish list of competencies in the following range of Ophthalmic skills:
- Visual Acuity
- Colour Vision Tests
- RAPD / PERRLA Pupillary Reactions
- Instillation of Eye Drops
- Tonometry
- Pachymetry
- Everting Eyelid
- Eye Irrigations
- Taking Ocular Swabs
- Taking Conjunctival Swabs
- Assisting with Intra-Vitreal Injections
- Assisting with Minor Surgical Procedures
- Pre-Operative Assessments
- Biometry
- Ocular Coherence Tomography
Where you'll be based
Ashtead Hospital
Key responsibilities include:
- • To provide technical support for Ophthalmology Clinics including consultant and practitioner clinics and virtual diagnostic reviews
- • To undertake Optical Coherence Tomography testing
- • To assist practitioner/doctor with macular injections
- • To undertake visual acuity assessment
- • Administering eye drops for ocular examination
- • Perform intra ocular pressure readings using eyecare equipment
- • To contribute to the safe, efficient and smooth running of Ophthalmology clinics providing assistance to the other technicians within the department
- • Cleaning and maintaining clinical areas
- • To provide support for patients and carers
